school registers

is it possible to get a look at or copies of my old school registers, from the sixties, or are they closed with data protection. :roll:

I would imagine you might have difficulty in finding where they are located, unless still kept by the school.

I can only give you an example of a school that was closing about 20 years ago where I and some friends went to a reunion and the Registers were there for us to browse, however the Punishment Books were not made available due to Data Protection. The only problem was that at that time none of us were researching family history and the only person who had an idea of what to do with storing the Registers in case they were thrown out was one of the pupils who had become a priest and he offered to store them in his house, which was about six miles distant. I wonder now whether anybody would know where to search for them.

As for Data Protection, I would think you would have a good chance of arguing for your own entries to be made available to yourself.

There are some school records at Liverpool Archives - I know I've looked at school admissions registers up to the 1940s/1950s, but I suppose it all depends on the school as to what records are there.

I found that my grandfather had been taken out of school for a while to attend a convalescent home - something none of the family knew about.
