Hi All
kent Hall Mission was very small in Great Georges Square Liverpool . it was a Welsh Mission. The minister was Mr Evans.

Does any one have any info regarding this mission. I can't find any info online.

If there are any records for the Mission they may well be held at the Liverpool Record Office, you can search the catalogue online or contact them via email.

What years? There are various online records for the 19th century where the address can be looked up. I'm wondering if this is the Mission Room or Mission Hall in Kent Square rather than one in Great George's Square? Below are two entries from Gore's Directory 1891. The First shows listings for Kent Square and Kent Street. There is a Mission Room in Kent Square. The second entry includes a listing for Calvinistic Methodists or Welsh Presbyterians. It mentions a mission in Kent Street so this might actually refer to Kent Square nearby. A c1891 map shows a Mission Hall (Presb.) in Kent Square so this might be the right location.

Sorry, forgot to add any dates. My Father and his siblings were all Baptized there from around 1935 onwards. Their Surname was Ross.

I have only been told this info myself very recently. It was given to me by my Aunt who was actually Baptized there. I will ask her if it could have been Kent Square, but she was certain that it was Great Georges Square.

I will have a look at the info you have all sent me and see if there are any clues.

Just a quick note to add that I have found index records of my Fathers Baptism but it just says South Liverpool. I have never seen a Birth Record.

Kent Square was demolished and replaced with Kent Gardens I don't know when exactly, perhaps in the late 1930s. Neither Kent Square nor Kent Gardens seem to be listed among the addresses on the 1939 Register. The mission may have continued elsewhere. Where did you get "Kent Hall Mission" from that's the correct name for the mission in Kent Square?

This link below is for Liverpool Record Office's catalogue, I can't find anything apart from the 1920s photograph. Perhaps the mission had a mother chapel that had the records for the various missions. Where did you find the baptism index or was this a birth index?

The 1911 Directory records the premises as, Calvinistic Methodist Chapel.

The 1938 Directory has no recording of Kent Sq or Kent Gardens.
Great Georges Square has no recording of Kent Hall mission.

You should be able to find the birth index details on Free BMD. If there is more than one possible birth look at the mother's surname and it might be a surname known in the family. You can also look at his siblings' birth indexes and see if the same mother's surname appears indicating they are one family.

Hopefully you have it sussed lads. I'm thinking that if the mission moved from Kent Square/Gardens to Great George's Square it may have just kept the name it was accustomed to.

I noticed on one of Bert's links that Mrs Pugh, a supporter of Kent Hall Mission, was a member of Chatham Street Calvinistic Methodist Chapel (the building is now part of the Liverpool University Campus). I've no idea where their records are either but if they can be located there may be records of Kent Hall with them.

I was wondering if anymore was known on Mr Evans, minister.

The 1938 Liverpool Directory which was likely compiled and printed in 1937 has a listing for Calvinistic Methodist or Presbyterian Church of Wales, only 2 have a minister, Evans.

Thanks again for your help and replies. From the birth indexes I have found for my aunts and uncles they just say South Liverpool.

This was the latest from my Aunt

"the minister was mr evans and i remember a sister walker it was closed down in the late 50s early 60s as i said it was very small my mom also cleaned the hall once a week"

The birth indexes help in the process of ordering birth certificates. The index details relate to a specific birth entry in the register. Liverpool South was the name of the registration district. For the full birth details you need to order the birth certificate from the GRO, entering the birth index details on their website to make sure you get the right birth certificate:-
