Mary Pickton or Picton, born 1792 in Warrington

Post by daggers »

I am trying to find a baptism for my 3xgreat-grandmother, whose tombstone gives her date of birth as 5 February 1792.
She was married at St Thomas's in Liverpool on 25 Oct 1812 to William Baines, who was then a schoolmaster [and she signed as Pickton]. By 1841 she was a confectioner, 49, at her son-in-law's house in Grassendale, born in county. In 1851 she was a widow, head of a household at 1 Rathbone Street, off Upper Duke Street, aged 58, born in Warrington. In 1861 she was back with her son-in-law's household in Grassendale, 69, born Warrington. She died in 1862.
I have not been able to find a baptism to match these dates, the nearest being at Winwick in 1790, which is not far away, but the father's address was given as 'Newton', which I think is likely to be 'le Willows'.
I do not know Mary's parents' names. The surname spelling later became Picton and the family liked to think there was a connection with the Picton of the central library, Picton clock, etc, but there is no evidence at all for that.

Any suggestions for the 'Warrington' connection would be very welcome.

Great result, for which many thanks. I thought I had tried the LDS but if I did I failed to find the entry. The date of birth as quoted in the register confirms that we have the right one.
