A Bit of Help

Post by PenGarth »

Hi all,

I'm new to this but here goes.

I'm from Conwy in North Wales and have just began my research. I was always told that I was born in Bangor, however I have found out that it was actually in Liverpool. I was registered at Bootle Registry Office with a birth address of 14 Par Lane, no district code, etc. It appears that there are 3/4 Park Lane's in Liverpool and was just wondering if anyone can suggest a way to find out which one it would be or which is the likely one. My birth mother (I believed she was my sister !!) as far as I know was a student nurse in Liverpool somewhere.

Thanks Alan

Welcome Alan.

It'll be Park Lane in Bootle. What year was it?

Hi, I was born December 1950 but I wasn't registered until the first quarter of 1951.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I wonder if there was an official adoption? Post 1927 there may well be a file with the local Social Services Department.

You may find some useful information here https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records

I have a few Kelly's Directories of Liverpool. The closest one I have to 1950 is 1955 which would have been compiled in 1954. The then occupant of 14 Park Lane Bootle was Thos. Hayes. He was also there in the 1938 Directory - he was a police constable back then - so presumably would have been the occupier in 1950.

That address in 1939 had a LOT of redacted entries in the 1939 Register, as you say you are new to this research I hope you won't mind me assuming you may not know about this, so here is a link that may explain it.
http://www.findmypast.co.uk/1939registe ... 9-register
however, there is a name that connects with the entries that retiringtype has found

Edith M Hayes born 29 Nov 1924 occupation Material Measure/Textile Co. She would apparently have married somebody by the name Lord.

Probable marriage Edith M Hayes to William EM Lord March Q 1944 Crosby 8b 839

There's another entry for 14 Park Lane in the 1939 Register (in the proper place between 12 and 16) which has Thomas Hayes, wife Edith, son Thomas and one redaction (presumably the other son born 1927).

Thomas Hayes married Edith Wills in Toxteth Park 1Q1922.

I didn't look at both entries after I spotted the surname Hayes - that's quite strange, must be two Park Lanes.

It's the same Park Lane but I think daughter Edith has been listed separately on an addendum page.

I would also be grateful if I could ask more as time goes on, if that's okay ?.

Thanks Again Alan
