I am trying to trace the marriage of Thomas Ormesher (b1850. d1872) to Mary Elizabeth Rimmer (b1849. d1912). I think they were married around 1870/1872.

Thomas was born in 1850 in Sefton, son of John Ormesher (b1823) and Margaret Meadows (b1828. d1901).

Mary Elizabeth (family folklore says she was known as Lizzie Rimmer) was born in 1849, in Aintree, daughter of William Rimmer (b1826) and Alice Morley (b1827).

Thomas and Mary Elizabeth had two sons:
- William Ormesher, b1871, in Buckley Hill, Sefton and
- John Ormesher, b 10th April 1842 in Sefton Road, Litherland

Thomas died in June 1872 living Mary Elizabeth a widow with two young boys.

Mary Elizabeth, now Ormesher, (nee Rimmer) married again to Michael McGinity on 9th June 1878.

I cannot find any trace of the marriage of Thomas Ormesher (b1850. d1872) to Mary Elizabeth Rimmer (b1849. d1912) around 1870/1872. I have searched Ancestry, Find My Past, and Lancashire BMD with no luck so far.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Nice one Luxor, it would seem that the GRO indexes have a bit of a mess up with their images. Well we know they aren't 100% accurate but this appears to be a case of the original is slightly smudged and not clear whether the page is 810 or 840.

It would be easier to telephone the GRO and ask for this certificate explaining that the numbers are unclear, 0300 123 1837, you will be able to pay by card and the price is £9.25.

As it's not listed on Lancsbmd, nor Ancestry, you can't check the Parish Registers to save this cost.

Er... not much from this simple index entry, apart from fixing the year as 1870 (last quarter) and the Registration District as West Derby. You will be able to order a certificate as Mary suggested. That should provide the usual details; date, place, ages, addresses, occupations and the father's names & occupations. The names of the witnesses may also be significant. Mary has identified a quirk with this entry... I'm sure her suggestion will be the best way to proceed.

I don't use Find My Past although I have been thinking of using it for the 1939 Register. Is the Death Cert in someone's Family Tree on FMP or is it accessible via a search ?

Hi Dennis the death certificate is on Anc. When you search for Thomas if comes up on the first page on a tree owned by Mark Blackburn. One the tree is also the birth certificate for Thomas' son.

I have got the Death Cert for Thomas O (d. 6/4/1872) and the Birth Cert for his son John O (b. 10/4/1872).

I have not got the Marriage Cert - where is this on FMP ?

I took this offer up a while back - my 30 days have now expired. The 1939 Register was not included as part of the offer, although if you read the small print it does not say it is included.

I need to decide if it is worth the £120 pa for FMP on top of the Ancestry subscription.

Have you used both ?

I'll have a look at Sefton Church registers tomorrow to see if there are baptisms, marriage and burials for Thomas if you like.

I have a copy of his Death Certificate, and have ordered his Marriage Cert from GRO.

Anything you find on his birth would be useful. All Census info says he was born abt 1850 in Sefton, son of John Ormesher (b1823) and Margaret Meadows (b1828. d1901).

His birth could be this one ?

Just a thought are the Ormeshers RC or C of E?
