Burial Register, Rice Lane Parochial Cemetery

I have found an entry, via Ancestry, for an infant buried in 1865 but the details seen online are bare. Will there be any more details in other registers at the Record Office? I have not been able to identify the parents of the infant from what Ancestry has available.

I think the registers on Ancestry are the registers on Micro Film at the Archives. Whats the name of the child Daggers.

I can confirm that what they have on Ancestry is the burial register that is held at the Record Office.

The most information usually given is perhaps age and address.

The child was Joseph Hooley, infant, 106 [?] Arlington Street. No 2084 in the register of burials, 1 June 1865.

Death Joseph Hooley age 4 Liverpool volume 8b page 91 June 1/4.
Birth -- I can't find a birth to make him 4, but the best is born 1863 in West Derby and Toxteth June 1/4 vol 8b p 352 MMn Yates. Unless born out of Liverpool.
It may be they registered him late.

Seeing Berts reply. There is a Joseph H b 1865 Liverpool Vol 8b pg 141 mmn Mc Kitrick June 1/4(. but that is a bit close to .... )Just had a ,light bulb moment , it might mean age 4 months as this has been frequently mis transcribed in these records.... That will do

Maybe don't rule anything out just yet -there was plenty of confusion. Samuel Hooley, who died in Canada in 1954, was a son of James Hooley and Jane McKitrick. His death registration shows his father's birthplace as England and his mother's as Ireland.

James and Jane were married in Saint Nicholas, Liverpool, on 31st March 1850.

Hooleys were rare. There were just 31 in the whole Ireland at the census of 1901. Nearly all were living in Tipperary, so your Hooleys maybe came from there.

The well known genealogy website and the other place have indexes of the early Irish Catholic Registers but James may have been born just before records began.

I take what you are saying about the name Hooley being a bit sparse and it does sound as if there wouldn't be many variations, but I once knew somebody whose mother was a Gilhooley and there had been some confusion as to whether the name had been changed over the years and shortened. Still need to keep an open mind.

Thanks for ideas. We do not know of any Irish connections and all known church records are CofE. The earliest family record we have is a marriage in St John's, L'pool, in 1821, Joseph H to Elizabeth Wilkinson who was from the Furness area of Lancs and later found as a midwife. The 1851 census provides his place of birth as Carden, Cheshire but this is not backed by any baptism.
In 1851 another Liverpool Hooley, Thomas, gave his place of birth as 'Carding'. He was a gardener like Joseph, and lived two streets away. I am tempted to think he was a brother of Joseph, but no more clues have been found.
It would help if there was a Cheshire OPC like the Lancs version!

Have you tried Family search, they have Bishop transcripts and Parish registries for Cheshire plus non conformists
