I am trying to trace the history of Richard DAVIES, born 17 Dec 1912 in Aughton, Lancashire. The oral family history suggests that he died prior to a family wedding in 1959. My latest confirmed information was that he moved to Blackburn (1939 National Register), working as lorry driver, previous occupations included bus driver and remarried in 1940.
FreeBMD has very few deaths prior to 1960 for dates of birth around 1912 . This death is one possible outcome, the other is less likely as a coal miner in West Yorkshire. This was a suicide by gas poisoning so the informant was the coroner, not a family member, so the death certificate does not provide any new leads.
I cannot find a Probate for this death. Any suggestions on other sources that could help link this death to the family history or eliminate it ?
thanks
Chris

Welcome aboard Chris, I am sure you will get some help here in our Forum. You have posted his marr cert from 1940 where he was divorced from Margaret May Pye, aged 27 when he remarried Ivy Hindley in Anc. Yes?

There could be something in one of the local newspapers - probably the Daily Post or the Liverpool Echo. These are on microfilm on the third floor of Liverpool Central Library.

You could try tracking his whereabouts on the electoral rolls from where he was last living. Presumably Lancashire Record Office would have them for Blackburn but contact them first before visiting them.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
As has been suggested, trade directories and electoral registers would be a good way to check, hopefully this will give clues to whoever was in his family and might identify them to you.
I have found that Blackburn has excellent archives in their library, I would suggest that you telephone both there and Preston to see which has the better set for your purposes, Blackburn might even give you a quick look up without need for visiting.

Thanks for the replies. Yes i have published my family tree on Ancestry.
I am impressed by helpfulness of staff at Blackburn Library and i am making plans to visit them.
I will also add Liverpool Library, for Daily Post and Echo archives, to my list.
Thanks
Chris.
