OK 1861 Census 55 Christian Street
John Jolliffe 52 Eating house keeper born Liverpool
Ann Jolliffe 47 born Liverpool
Sarah Jolliffe 21 born Liverpool
John Jolliffe 13 born Liverpool
Catherine Jolliffe 11 born Liverpool
This is not the same family at 27 Stafford Street 1861, Old Haymarket 1851 and Tranmere 1871.
The question is where were they in 1851, 1871 and onwards. They disappear.
Who were John's parents ?, what happened to the kids ? etc ................Help
Fingers crossed.

I got excited about this one but now I'm not so sure but personally I would still do a little tree and see what you can come up with, you can always delete it if it's a false lead and the LDS have been known to make transcription errors before today like any other transcribers......
In the BMD indexes is a Catherine Joliffe marrying Thomas Whittaker in 4Q 1873 West Derby.
In the Cheshire Marriage licence bonds and allegations 1606-1905 we have the same couple marrying but unfortunately no parents. 29 Dec 1873.
Thomas Whittaker of Duke Street, Liverpool, Mariner, bachelor 21 to Catherine Joliffe of St. Catherine's, Edge Hill, spinster 21.
It was all looking promising until the next record from Family Search:
First name(s) Catherine
Last name Jolliffe
Marriage year 1873
Marriage date 1873
Marriage place Edge Hill
Father's first name(s)
Jeremiah
Father's last name Jolliffe
Spouse's first name(s) Thomas
Spouse's last name Whittaker
Spouse's father's first name(s) Thomas
Spouse's father's last name Whittaker
Residence Edge Hill, Lancashire, England
County Lancashire
Country England
That's the best I could come up with because like my David Evans and his wife they seem to have disappeared off Planet Earth.

unless they all emigrated...............

I was also looking at Jeremiah as a father, I've known this to have been interchangeable with John before now, but the only one linked to Liverpool that I found was living in Gore Street North in 1851, and he was a shoemaker born Manchester. Coincidences are that the wife is Ann and the ages for Jeremiah 46 and Ann 38, which is a similar age gap to that between your John and Ann. Child William 16, born Wigan with them but no others.
Pete is this just a part of your one-name study, or do you have any clues about them, even years later? I'm guessing the first.

That Catherine Jolliffe who married 1873 gave her abode as Smithdown Lane and her father as Jeremiah Jolliffe, excise officer. One of the witnesses was a Frederick Jolliffe.

Yup that's all the same stuff I have.
It's one of those annoying loose ends that need tidying. Unfortunately John was born c1809 and the John (mine) from Old Haymarket c1807. It looks like John 1807 and his wife had no issue.
Thanks to all I'll have to put this one away again.
