Hello - I am interested in Robert Roskell of Liverpool who was a watch and clockmaker of some high degree. I know he lived in Gateacre in the early 19thc 1827 to be exact. He died in about 1855. . He lived in Gateacre Hall - which I am researching for'The Gateacre Society' on-line.
Sadly it was demolished sometime in about c1920 I am looking for a picture of it, and if anyone can help, I would be grateful.
Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
If nobody comes up with a picture, and at that date it may well be a Herdman print that is found, then there are a number of Facebook Groups (search with the word Liverpool) where people hold copies of photographs which they are willing to share. I believe there is also a Group by the name of Woolton and Gateacre History and Chat.

As per the link I posted this c1840s map below appears to show that "Gateacre House" was originally at the top of Gateacre Brow when the Roskell family lived there. I'm not aware of any pictures of this incarnation of the house, the later house of the same name in Grange Lane is in "Gateacre & Belle Vale" by Beryl Plent and Mike Chitty (pages 48 & 49) but this is not Robert Roskell's home. An 1893 map shows the Gateacre House at the top of Gateacre Brow as Gateacre Hall. The building no longer appears to be there on a c1900s map.

Hello member 8038 - I see you are researching the Holland famly?
which one please.
Gateacre Hall was on Acrefield Road, opposite Gateacre Brow.
Gateacre House was on Grange Lane........
Gateacre Hall Hotel was in Halewood Road - prior to that I think it was 'the Nook' where Rev.William Shepherd lived.
Gateacre Hall as well was part of the Woolton Hill estate......
and contained about 30,000 sq.yards.....
other families living there after Robert Roskell, was John Topham, and then John Weston, and then James Leishman.....
Gateacre was a Township within Little Woolton.and Much Woolton
Have a look at the Gateacre Society website.....especially 'Gateacre Walks' Woolton Hill.

Robert Roskell marr Anne Kaye at St. Paul, Liverpool, but all their children were baptised at St. Mary, Woolton ( the old Chapel)
Does anyone know where Anne Kaye was born, and where she died.
She came from a Catholic family also.

For the confirmation of dates, the marriage was 3rd October 1808, and I notice two of the witnesses were also Ann Kaye and Joseph Kaye. This also confirms that Ann was of the same Parish.
I wonder if you have the Marriage Licence?

Yes Gateacre Hall, called on this map below Gateacre House, was at the top of Gateacre Brow off Acrefield Road. My Holland family were from Ireland any Irish Hollands?

If you look at my 1840s map you will see Woolton Hill Road (not named) to the north of the grounds of the house itself so Gateacre Hall could be said to be off Acrefield Road, at the top of Gateacre Brow and on the corner of Woolton Hill Road.
