Hello, I think I may have found my 3 x g. grandmother sent to Kirkdale for receiving stolen goods.

On a petition signed by her husband he says he is a Clerk to Messrs. Jas. Widdowson Co. of Lime Street could SKS please look this up in a directory.

If this is who I think it is then I have pages written by my 3 x g. grandfather in his own handwriting!!

I'm not certain if these Widdowson joiners had both addresses in these directories it looks like they had a yard in Lime Street.

Gore's Directory 1829

Widdowson Thomas, joiner, 12, Rose Street
---------------------- and Co. joiners, 26, Lime Street

Gore's Directory 1834

Widdowson Thomas, joiner and builder, 58, Gloucester Street
---------------------- yard, 26, Lime Street

Thank you both. Would they have employed a Clerk to do the paperwork do you think?

There would have been non-manual work in such a business so yes there would have been clerical work involved.

1827 Gores links the name Rainford found by Karen in the newspaper article.

Rainford, Harwood and Widdowson, joiners, 23, Lime street

and in 1825 Baines they are at 68 Lime Street
