This is a long shot. My great x 3 grandfather Henry Manchester was the Innkeeper at the Royal Oak, Bickerstaffe when he was killed, by a cart, in 1835. I would like a picture or likeness of the pub if there is one around.

Do you think the buildings there are the same as the pub in 1835??

Added I think from the caption, they were built 1906. That would follow from the architecture. What happened to the pub?

Sadly Lynne I would suggest that it looks very much like the Royal Oak was knocked down, or possibly fell over, and these rather elegant 'cottages' were built on the land it had once occupied.
It's a similar tale to that of the 'Travellers Rest' in Maghull although there are probably no surviving images of it as it likely fell into disrepair,or was possibly abandoned, a good few years before the turn of 20th century and the availability of cameras.
Oddly enough there are many pubs I can remember drinking in before the turn of the 21st century (only 17 years ago) that no longer exist, and are far too many to list.

We can thank Blue for the link to the side by side map and I was interested as I live not too far away from there.

I didn't know what year you were interested in but didn't think the cottages looked as though they had been a pub previously, but now you say 1835 then certainly not.

I would suggest that you join some of the Facebook Groups, use "Liverpool" as a search for appropriate ones, and you will find a lot of them have old photographs that are posted all the time, and happy to provide if they have some that are requested.
