I have the death certificate for my Great x 2 grandmother. She died at 105 Wellington Road Toxteth on 1 Feb 1886. I have lots of info about her life, born in Isle of Man and her children and 2 marriages. She died called Jane Gaddarn aged 65 but this was not her correct age. I think she fibbed a bit on her 2nd marriage to George Gaddarn in 1861. Her previous married name was Godsoe.
What I would like to find out now is where is she buried. I have checked Ancestry to no avail. I have checked Toxteth on line, also to no avail. If any one had any other suggestions or could do a look up at the library I would be eternally grateful, (if only a couple of cemeteries that I could then cross off my list).

Nothing on the transcribed list for St James, although this isn't complete so it's possible.
Nothing on Gibsons Epitaphs.
Nothing found with a search of those names in the old newspapers, although an ocr programme may well have got itself confused with that name. Have you checked yourself in the deaths to see if an entry may have been placed?

Yes but instead of just doing a search in the usual way, actually choose the dates just after the death and search the death column.

Yes Tina, it most definitely was. She was born in the Isle of Man Father Paul, mother Isabella Stevenson.

Hi, all. I have done an advanced search on all 18 century paper on line with Lancashire library. Not one match with any of them Never mind. I'll keep trying.

Where are her husband's buried? Perhaps she is with them.

Funny enough , I have just been looking at that.
Her first husband William Godsoe, was buried in St James' Cemetery in 1858. The people at Liverpool Library found this for me. He was in a private grave with a lot of their children. No Jane mentioned though. They were not on the St James data that is available on line or the Ancestry data for St James Toxteth, (not sure if this is the correct church) nor on Gibsons. But when they looked for him the also looked for Jane and did not find her.

George Gaddarn died in 1875, but I could only find it on free BMD so I don't know where he is buried.

You may not want to spend money on the death cert but if you do it might make a suggestion about whether a coroner may have got involved - possibly giving a reason for a burial in an unconsecrated area.

That would be a good idea, but I already have the death certificate. No Coroner She died of Cerebral debility, apoplexy and old age aged about 75 (death cert says 65). The informant was Catherine Edgecombe, who lived at 6 Toxteth Street, Toxteth Park.

Hi Lynne, in 1871 census she is listed as Godsoe married. Yet she remarried in 1861 to George Gaddarn. In 1861 she's Godsoe wid and George is lodging with her. What am asking is, what name would she have been buried under??

The online Excel file for St James has a record for a George Gaddson in 1875 aged 57 years, address Caryle St. Could this be George Gaddarn with a typo?

Back home, but v. tired. My Mondays are always tiring and work on Tuesday. They definitely lived at 70 Caryl Street and he was 57 and died in 1875, so that looks very likely. Where did you find this record?

I don't know what name she was buried with, but her death certificate definitely says Gaddarn. I will look for Godsoe as well. It is so unusual that searching is dead easy. (Unless it is mistranscribed )

Having found both husbands buried there, how can I now find where in the grave yard they were buried and is Jane with them.. I expect she is, but apart from asking Roger Hull to search for me is there any other way??

The link I gave was to the page with the cemetery layout on it, I'm not too sure there is any better map available. As there is no area listed for George, it would seem that the burial record didn't include it.

Some information about graves at St James' Cemetery:-

"The last burial took place in July 1936 and the cemetery was officially closed. Sadly in the years after that it was left overgrown, with no security or care so it was not surprising when it fell into a state of disrepair. During the late 1960's it was decided that action was needed. A plan to turn St James Cemetery into a public garden was proposed. This involved clearing the vast majority of the gravestones and creating an open space. This was completed by 1972."
