I'm trying to establish if an Ellen Walker born 1821 in Carnarvon Wales entered a Liverpool Workhouse around 1861 and subsequently died there. She was buried in a paupers grave at Walton Park Cemetery on 14 Aug 1864. She may have had a baby called Margaret Ellen with her. Any dates or pointers would be much appreciated. I have just subscribed to the society but have not received my documentation yet. Many Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.
The address for Ellen Walker that you refer to is indeed The Workhouse, but as she is buried in a General Grave it would be unlikely that baby Margaret Ellen would be buried in the same grave unless she died at the same time. I can see no baby by that name who was buried in the same cemetery with the address of the workhouse.
The records that would need to be checked to see the details for Ellen may be held at the Liverpool Record Office.

The Workhouse registers for that time are on MF. It will not give an address of where she was admitted from, but it may give a settlement ie from where she came from. There may also be information of who was admitted with her. If I get a chance I have a look at the register Monday or Tuesday.

Many thanks to everyone who helped. I know now that this was not the Ellen Walker I was looking for. I had a theory that because I could not find her on the 1861 census she may have entered the workhouse in or around that time but clearly that was not the case because my Ellen was born in Carnarvon Wales and I am pretty sure she was not catholic.

Many thanks Alison, all those facts are correct! I will now investigate further to see if I can find the right death record for her and her child to tie it all up.
