Church in Toxteth Park or Liverpool

Post by lucioanna »

I am l trying to find out what church my ancestor married in. It would have been in Toxteth Park and I am going to try and upload a photo of it. I have sent away for the marriage certificate which will probably tell me, but as I am so impatient I thought in the meantime, I would try and see if it rings a bell with any one on this Forum. The couple are Isabella McGivney (my ancestor) and Charles Cave (unknown) married in 1945 Liverpool and probably soon after that they emigrated to Canada. I am also wondering if the uniform of the groom was English or Canadian, I have no information on Charles Cave until I get their marriage certificate. The chap on the left of the bride in uniform is probably her brother who was in the forces.[URL=http://s424.photobucket.com/user/a ... html][IMG]

You've obviously tried LancashireBMD without success as that site might have told you where the marriage took place, so there would be no alternative but to order the certificate.

Unfortunately the age of the church would be similar to many churches in Liverpool, but I hope perhaps the distinctive brick pattern might ring a bell with somebody.

Good luck with the certificate, I hope you will bring us up to date when it arrives.

Sorry; can't help on the church but this link shows an earlier Charles Cave well established in Toxteth, so he may have been local?

About the uniforms: the bridegroom is wearing standard battledress which was adopted from about 1938. I cannot see any unit or formation insignia, so it is impossible to learn any more from it. Canadian uniform was probably similar.
The other uniformed man is wearing service dress, with a Royal Artillery cap badge. That type of uniform was the standard army dress between the wars and was being phased out as battledress came in. It seems unlikely that it was still in use in 1945, so are you sure of the date? No medal ribbons are visible.
Others will have a better idea of what ladies wore before and after the war.

The marriage was registered in the First Quarter of 1945. The recorded spelling of the bride's name is 'Isobelle'.

I think there's been a transcription error, 1921 census, should be Levins?

Image

Australian Forces attestation,

Charles Cave, Born Liverpool, L/Sgt, 3065, killed, 20 Sept, 1917, Belgium.
Wife, Mary Cave. Later correspondence to Mrs W H Levins, formally Cave, Alberta, Canada.

If this is your family, well worth viewing military records of L/Sgt Charles Cave.

Very good, Bert. There's a picture showing this soldier's name on the Ypres Memorial on the Cave Family history Society website (Number '021')

I haven't disappeared, I am just going through all the amazing information that you have sent me, making notes at the same time to reply to you both. I'm 75 and it takes me a lot more time to do this now. Just wanted you to know I will get back to you this evening.

You are a star, It is really amazing what you have discovered. Regarding the military records etc, I will have to wait till I get the marriage cert. before I upgrade to worldwide membership, it is just an 'attention to detail' bad habit that I have. But I am almost certain this is the right bloke, especially when I saw that address you sent me for Box35 Carbon Alberta. Carbon was the address in the letter and I can see on the map that it is a very small town in Canada, so it has got to be a match.
I’ve found most of the records that you have posted here, but as I say I will have to wait till I get a month’s upgrade to Worldwide next week before I can view the images. It will be well worth upgrading, because I already have an idea now of how much more info. I will get. Looks like Mary Cave remarried then, this is going to be a good story I’m sure. I’ve got the gist of what happened to them now.
Luxor
Thanks for the info. On the Death of Charles Cave, after I read that I found it on the “Find a Grave Index”

Thanks again to all for the info. I will keep you updated.
