finding Charles McCulloch 1854

I am hoping that someone can guide me as to how to find birth records for my great grandfather Charles McCulloch. I have census records stating he was born in Liverpool about 1854, the 1871 and 1881 has his last name spelled McCullock. His father is listed as Thomas McCullock in those records, the correct last name is McCulloch.
I also found a marriage index from Liverpool to Elizabeth McPherson on 17 May 1875 St. Titus, Liverpool.
I have tried to find his birth record in the Parish searches and have been unable to do so, any guidance as to where I should look will be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Reading your original post makes me wonder if you are fairly new to researching and if so you may like to read a few hints and tips about Births/Marriages/Deaths and Baptisms/Marriages/Burials that we have collected here

I would suggest that if you were to order the probable birth certificate that Blue posted the details for, you do so from the GRO
www.gro.gov.uk and UNCHECK the box that asks if the GRO reference is known. This will allow you to enter the information that you know his father's name. Then if the father is incorrect they will refund your money.

Thanks to all for the information, I have been doing this for over a year, and have over 50 hard copies of records for ancestors from the GRO and BMD's. For some reason Charles did not want to show himself to me, and I really appreciate the info. I will order the record soon. With that being said about researching it for over a year, I am still such an amateur as others can find these records so quickly and I cannot on some. I will look at the info for beginners as I feel I need to start at the beginning on some of these relatives, I cannot thank you enough and I am open to any ideas as to how to gather info. Hopefully Charles will behave and give me the info I need. Thanks Bert, Blue and Mary. Have a great New Year!
