If the date of marriage is accurate in the bible then he did marry Sarah Woods, the witnesses are interesting as they do appear to be family members rather than as often was the case, members of the church.

As you know at that date you won't find a birth registration but it might be worthwhile researching the witnesses as well to see if anything helpful turns up.

What was Daniel's occupation and address as this information may give clues to his father?

I think this might be the family in 1841
Thomas Lane, West Derby
Daniel Pendleton 40 Mason
Sarah 40
John 6
Thomas 4
Mary 1

I wonder if Daniel's father could be the Thomas who witnessed the marriage?

As he is a mason it might be worth your while checking the Freeman's Registers which you will find in the Archives at the Liverpool Record Office.

Looking at others who were married in the same place
James Fillingham and Frances Pendleton on 20 February 1831 - witnesses Thomas Pendleton and Wm Gibson
also
Joseph Pendleton and Sarah Robinson on the same day - witnesses William Pendleton and Wm Gibson

Wm Gibson has witnessed other marriages so may not be connected.

In 1851 Daniel and Sarah with their children John, George and Sarah are still living in Thomas Lane, although his occupation is now Ag Lab, his birth place is given as West Derby.

Next door to them are James and Fanny Fillingham with daugher Mary and BROTHER IN LAW Thomas Pendleton, again all born West Derby.

Has your friend actually viewed the Edge Hill St Mary's baptism register at the Liverpool Record Office? I don't think this is online. It would seem that we now have three siblings - Daniel, Frances (1801) and Thomas (1806) approximate dates obviously, and probably Joseph too.

The 1841 Census for Thomas Lane has the probably above Thomas 30 (don't forget ages were rounded down to the nearest 5) living with Mary Pendleton age 80. This is a few dwellings away from Daniel and family. Mary may be grandmother rather than mother at that age.

My mistake, there were no baptisms at St Mary's Edge Hill before 1813. It would seem that you may have to search nearby churches, perhaps St Mary's West Derby as the appropriate dates don't appear on the OPC site.

Based on those names the only marriage I was able to find was at St Peters on 14 May 1787 of Thomas Pendleton, Miller to Mary Wilson, Widow.

I couldn't be convinced of this because of the occupation, but it's a possible.
