Mary Kiggins was born on the 15th August 1896 and baptised on the 30th August 1896 at Blessed Sacrament. It is available on Ancestry. In 1916 she marries Michael Maguire yet on the baptism it mentions Michael Maguire, who became her husband and Thomas Kiggins and Margarita Maguire who were the witnesses at the wedding. It is in latin and i can't make out what its about. I do not understand why her husband would be mentioned on her baptism. It is all on the left side of the certificate.
Sorry i cannot post the picture I have spent ages trying and can't even find photo bucket on search on here. When my daughters visit i'll get them to show me.
Thanks
Lin

When a couple got married in the Catholic Church they had to provide proof of their baptism. When she obtained a copy of her baptism the priest will have made a note on the baptism of who she/he married. It should say Matrimono Contraxt also the name of the church she married at, date and name of the person she married, it also included the names of the witnesses to her marriage.

Catholics marrying elsewhere was considered to be such a problem that the RC church introduced a new marriage law in 1908 making only marriages at RC churches valid. It is after this date that the practice of adding information about subsequent marriages to the baptism entries was introduced.
