Request for Photographs

Hi, Blue 70. Here I am hijacking posts again. A relative of mine was born at 8 Windermere St, Everton. I came up to Liverpool last weekend with his daughter from Scotland and visited Windermere St only to find it had been demolished . The other neighbouring streets are there, but the one we wanted has gone . :(
If you, or any one else, has a photo of Windermere St (including No 8 would be fantastic) we would be very grateful.
I also went to Park Lane Aintree (No 5) to find that had been demolished as well. Again a photo would be lovely as my dad lived there.
Thanks in anticipation
Lynne

Hi Lynne

Sorry no photos of either. Was the family name Reece or Parry? I've got an old electoral roll photo on my iPhone think it's from the 1940s/50s it shows the voters in the street. The street had subsidence if you walk down it now it's all up and down. The council knocked it down I think it came down c1978-1981. The surrounding streets got garden extensions. Little Windermere Street survived.

They were called Harrison. They were there in 1911 census and the father Thomas died there in 1922, when the rest of the family moved to Scotland where the mother, Ella, came from. I will tell my cousin the reason for the demolishing. Where the house similar to those in the neighbouring streets? Thanks Blue

Have a look at Little Windermere Street on the other side of Thirlmere Road that'll give you an idea of what the houses looked like apart from the front exterior walls etc they've replaced the original exterior.

Pass. Can I phone a friend?

Nothing comes up via Google or Ged's or Bob's picture sites so there's unlikely to be photos around.

There's really no need to hijack somebody's post with a totally separate request, when your own will do fine.

Blue's searches sound as if they are fairly exhaustive, however I would recommend that you look around on some of the Liverpool Facebook groups, there are many people who share some old photographs of places, some of the pictures I haven't seen before and may be a bit unusual. The Four Squares I believe may be one of those that would cover the areas you are interested in.

Liverpool archives have a large photographic collection where I found photographs of streets my ancestors lived in. I don't know if they are listed on the on line catalogue now, but you used to have to look at a catalogue in the library and then arrange to see the photograph. Maybe it would be worth emailing them to ask.

I usually check Ged and Bob's picture sites using the "Control and F" to find any mentions of the street in the relevant section:-

Thanks all, yes I have been to all these sites but nothing. I am hoping to visit Liverpool Record Office soon so I will have a scout around there.

The photographs will be in the Archives where you will need to give 24 hours notice for what you want bringing out to the reading room, so Hilary's suggestion of emailing them to find out if they have the photographs you need is advisable.

When searching for photographs at the Archives they are under the Ref 352 ENG City Engineer's Collection. It is also worthwhile looking in the Photographs and Small Prints index. And last but not least 352 HOU collection, now these are not indexed as well as the City Engineers and Photographs and small prints collection and what I do is if a Street is not listed I look for a Street that is off the one I'm looking for and there is always other Streets in that folder. Not many people use 352 HOU.
