Hi and welcome to the forum.

Still looking as unfortunately there is no Hirsch listed in the 1870 Greens Liverpool Directory to be able to identify whether it was a public house or whether it was merely a victualler who might have been selling beer from his front room, a common occurrence.

I have looked in the Liverpool Licensing Report Book for 1909 and there is no licenced premises listed for No. 46.
No. 45, however, was the Alligator, with (by coincidence?) a Germanic name as the tenant: Hermann Strohmeyer.
All four of the pubs listed had odd numbers, no evens.

Good find Bert.
Here is the 1901 map to show Atherton Road running up from South Castle Street to Paradise Street opposite the Grand Theatre, bet there would have been some custom from there.

Now Bert has found the name of the pub for you, it might be worthwhile joining a few of the Liverpool Facebook Groups that post photographs frequently. You might be lucky if you ask, somebody might have a picture in their archive collection.

There may be a photograph out there but it may not look anything like it did in 1871 due to the change of usage of the address. You would have to consider the possibility that the premises might have been rebuilt at some stage. It's appearance would certainly have changed:-

1891 Census

36 to 46 = 6 uninhabited properties

Kelly's Directory 1894

46 Moss Saul & sons, cabinet mas

Gore's Directory 1900

46 Moss Saul & sons cabinet makers & glass merchants

Gore's Directory 1911

46 Harrop's Ltd. wholesale stationers

Kelly's Directory 1938

46 Edison Swan Electric Co. Ltd. electric lamp mfrs
46 Hirst, Ibbetson & Taylor Ltd. wholesale wireless supplies
46a Universal Trading Co. stapling machines
