Elizabeth or Betty LEIGH or LEE nee MILLS

I am wondering were is she buried?

Betty LEIGH died 05 Dec 1845, in Pennington, Leigh, Lancs (James Plimmer in attendance)

1841 finds her as Elizabeth LEIGH at Bonny Well, Pennington, Lancs

a possibly marriage on 14 Aug 1808 at Eccles St Mary took place between William LEE aged 23 and Elizabeth MILLS aged 33

this made me think a baptism of Betty MILLS, daughter of Peter MILLS, at Leigh St Mary on 18 Nov 1775 is one and the same

Her husband William LEIGH (as LEE in burial records) was buried in Leigh Cemetery in 1864. No others listed in the grave are his wife. They may have been non conformists, which is proving a difficulty in finding some of the burials. It has been suggested the vicar of Leigh would not acknowledge non conformists so didn't grant them a burial ceremony at the church.

Any advice most welcome, thank you!

I have asked one of our members local to the area if they can advise.

Firstly, I tried looking at the 1841 census but couldn't find the entry.

The first burials at Leigh Cemetery took place in 1856. Pennington Church was not open at this time. I have checked the burials on Lancashire Parish Clerk Online and could not find the burial there. As you think she married at Eccles St. Mary's, I also checked their burial but didn't find her there either.

I'm sorry to be so negative. All I can do now is include your query in the Leigh Group's monthly newsletter that is distributed at our monthly meeting to see if anyone else is researching similar names.

Have you tried looking for her parents' grave or any of her siblings?

Thank you for your input Glenys, circulating the name might be useful or you never know somebody else with local knowledge might have other suggestions.

hi, thanks for all your hard work!

I had hoped she was buried with her husband but that would not have been possible - I've even tried a burial register of Bedford Wesleyan Chapel, Leigh on ancestry but she didn't appear there - I was at a loss where to turn next.

I guess the next best thing is to try and piece her own family together and see where that takes me!

Today is 170th anniversary of Elizabeth / Betty's death in Pennington, Leigh, Lancs aged 73. Previous in 1841 she was living at Bonny Well, Pennington, Lancs.

Her husband later died in 1864 aged 79 in Irlam, living previously at Trafalgar Street, Bedford, Lancs in 1861!

Was just hoping that there may be now, somebody researching the MILLS clan of Leigh, who could connect to my Betty!
