I am researching the family history of Mary Jane Williams, born? married Ernest Percival Russell in Liverpool 1947, they came to NSW Australia, and their first child was born in Revesby,NSW. in 1950..
Ernest died in 1988 age 66years. Mary Jane died in 2009 no age mentioned, I believe the Williams family was a large family of maybe twelve children, they lived in Bootle,Merseyside Liverpool.
Would there be any way of my tracking this family, or will I have to buy the marriage certificate in the hope of finding some answers? Thank You, Joan

Do you have the death certificate of Mary Jane? I ask because I seem to remember that Australian death certificates have far more information on them than English and Welsh ones.

Hello Joan and welcome,
Without knowing Mary Jane's YoB selecting the right birth will be speculative even given the family lore that she came from a large family. There were at least 4 birth registrations of that name between 1920 and 1929.
I think the marriage cert would be a worthwhile investment since it will give you her age and the name/occupation of her father. With luck there could also be the names of sibling witnesses.
Marriages Jun 1947: Russell, Ernest P and Williams, Mary J - Liverpool South 10d 949
The cert will cost £9.25 from

Hi and welcome to the forum.
In addition to the excellent information you have been given above, we have also put together a few suggestions for tracing living people here

If you have confirmed any of the more recent marriages of descendants, it might be useful to check some of those with a similar name on social media websites.

Hi Hilary, thanks for the reply, and suggestion, I haven't bought the certificate as yet, I have been searching online information first.
The Australian certificates are supposed to have far more information on them, but it's not always the way.
It depended on what info was known, and who filled out the forms. I have been unfortunate enough to purchase several certificates and they had no, or very little personal detail on them. Joan
