Hi Folks.......I am back, day off from unpacking boxes......so what better way to relax

Have decided to find out where my great Auntie Norah was living in 1939, and thought I would consider the 1939 census.

I have her birth, marriage and death certificate. I know she didnt marry till 1948 and she was a spinster. Reasoning behind me going for this expensive census is.........if she was single and didnt move in with my nan (her sister) until 1947 (just before her wedding) ..........who if anyone was she living with in 1939?

You all know where this is going  (or those that know the Prendergast/Davies saga) will !!!

What I would like to know is has anybody ordered one of these.......was it any use??

Wow, I'm not even sure I'd know where to begin with this one when you don't know where she was living. Have you tried the telephone books, available on Ancestry? although they would presumably be only any good if she was the one paying the bill, but at least it could be a start, to rule out if not rule in.

I hope you will keep us informed about your search for this one, as it's a fairly new route to go along, we'll follow with interest and chip in when and where we can.

PS Good luck in your new home.

I used it a couple of years ago to get a date of birth for my elusive grandmother. I did the everyone at a stated address route but you can do it on a name and date of birth route.

In 1914 it was announced that the books where being digitised for FMP and would be available within two years. That was in the spring of 2014 so hopefully spring 2016 should see them accessible. It might be worth waiting?

It was expensive but in my case it seemed the only way of solving which Elizabeth Jones was mine and it did. It was also quick. I think if I had anyone else I would wait for the FMP release.

 Back then it was one finger at a time on the typewriter when transcribing so it would take a while, even over a century! :D
