I am in the process of reconnecting with the Hoskins side that are children of the immigrants to Canada and we are sharing information with each other.

The Holden side is a complete mystery for which we have little information. On my father’s birth certificate, the address is listed as 40 Boaler St. Parents names: father James Holden – occupation hairdresser (Master), mother Eva Holden nee Hoskins.

Frederick James Holden attended Boaler St. School, and a letter of reference was included in his files with The LSH and Barnardo’s. I have been able to access numerous copies of Ups and Downs, the newsletter for Dr. Barnardo’s homes in Canada. In them are references of donations to Barnardo’s from my father and uncle Walter, as well as correspondence and photos. When dad returned from serving in WW2 with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, he stopped by the head office of Barnardo’s in Canada and his visit was mentioned in the newsletter and a letter to him.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could provide details of Eva (Evelyn Hoskins) and James Holden. I’d like to know where she was born, and where she was laid to rest. There was a coroner’s investigation into the death and it was ruled accidental.

I would appreciate any information on James – birthplace, details of death and place of burial, as well as information on where to look to trace that line backward.

Thanks in advance for anyone who may be able to help.

I also have heard that there were 4 other children that my grandfather James had, one of which was named Elsie who immigrated to Canada and moved to Isabella Manitoba. Other than Elsie, I have no information on the other children or of the possibly two other spouses that James had.

Bert,

Thank you so much for the information. I had a hunch when you posted information on my great uncle Harold, that you had access to more information than I had, and may be able to help with this one.

I am absolutely stunned. Being able to get this information is something our family has been looking for for decades. I am amazed at the amount of information here? How did you find it? Is there a program or site you know of that I can use to continue my research?

Once again, thank you for the wealth of information you have shared.

Ken

I had a suspicion they would be able to help, but their speed and results far exceeded anything I expected.

Thank you so much for your help.

I'm writing a new biography on this tree branch for the family!
