Records of Liverpool Evacuees

Post by gerardsdarcy »

I was told I was evacuated along with my two older brothers (now deceased) to Chester/Tarvin from Liverpool during the war. Were any records kept of Liverpool evacuees ?.

Although I wasn't evacuated my best mate from school was. At the behest of his parents he ended up on a farm near Pwlleli on the Lleyn peninsula in North Wales. He was most annoyed because he missed the big Liverpool Blitz in May 1941!

Some years ago my mate tried to find records of his group without success. He was told that after the end of the war most, if not all, records would have been 'disposed of'. Although it was organised by central government from memory the evacuation was quite an ad hoc affair and the local WVS [Women's Volunteer Service] had a big hand in the running of the evacuation, at both the 'despatch' and 'receiving' ends of the operation.
