This may not be of use to most members, but I have found that the schools registers for St Patrick’s Roman Catholic School in Widnes have been incorrectly indexed as St Marie’s Roman Catholic School in the “National School Admission Registers & Log-Books 1870-1914” dataset on FindMyPast. I know this to be true as I viewed the microfilm of the registers for St Patrick’s at Cheshire Records Office some time ago for the records of various relatives, and all of these same records are being shown as originating from St Marie’s on FindMyPast.

I contacted FindMyPast to point out this error several days ago but have yet to receive an acknowledgement. Until this error is corrected anyone seeking a relative in this dataset on FindMyPast could also search in Familysearch.org where the same information in available with the correct school shown (albeit without the original images). It is worth seeing the original images on FindMyPast as Familysearch has not indexed all of the data for each record.

Considering this is one of the datasets they are recently proud of, I'm surprised they haven't replied to you sooner, or should I not be surprised, most of these subscription sites are quicker to take your money than concern themselves over accuracy.

I frequently report transcription and other errors, such as wrong images displayed. On the previous setup, before the revamped site appeared, I would receive an email telling me the correction had been made within 2 or 3 weeks. I submitted my first error report on the new site within a week of it coming on line around 6 months ago. Deafening silence since! Not a twitter, titter or a tweet!

I think they were overwhelmed by the substantial adverse reaction to the new site and now have an overflowing In Tray to be dealt with by the same number of Support Staff.
