Ships passenger list

I have a couple of ancestors who moved to the US between 1851 and 1860. I need to find a searchable site of passenger lists pre Ellis Island days.
If anyone has access to Ancestry world I would appreciate a look up for William and Margaret France. He was a doctor born in Kidderminster and she was born in Middlesex, 1814 and 1818 respectively.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Bert, that's him. He was in Liverpool in 1851 when the census was taken with his wife Margaret. Margaret is a widow back in Liverpool 1861 census.
I'm trying to find out when they went to the US and when she returned sometime after his death in 1860.
Thanks again

I would say that yes they were Mormons. Sons of Utah Pioneers appears to be a Mormon Society.
I did find one reference to Dr William France googling. He was mentioned as being one of a number of doctors in Utah. It said he was a graduate of Glasgow University. I'm not good at copying on the iPad but will get it later when on the PC.

He was converted to Mormonism by a missionary. The following text has some fantastic information - look at page 19.

I googled Jacob Gates 1853 and came up with
http://history.lds.org/overlandtravels/ ... panyId=124
Jacob Gates Company. Departure; 3 June 1853; Arrival; 26 September 1853; Number In Company; 274; Captain; Jacob Gates ... Trail Excerpt; Source Location; Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah. Butler, Henry, "Loaned Out, " in Our ...
Unfortunately didn't get the website correct sorry!
This is the overland journey it doesn't tell you about his voyage across the Atlantic.
It lists William France, Margaret Joliffe France and another William France. It implies to me that Margaret may have been a Mormon in Liverpool.

What an afternoon I've had. I can't thank you all enough, please keep any info coming.
Now all I need is the ship out to US and Margaret's ship back to Liverpool and find her death.
Always knew this was the best forum.

Moved to the PC
Having discovered that they probably sailed to New Orleans before setting off on thewtrek I looked for ship's lists for 1853 and on this
1853 Mormon Immigrants Who Camped in Keokuk
http://mormonhistoricsites.org/wp-conte ... grants.pdf
Found 8 ships and on the International found William France the Younger. The ship left Liverpool 18 Feb 1853 and arrived New Orleans 25 April 1853. No other France on the 8 ships so still hunting for Margaret and William.

1871 census Rg10 Piece 3750 Folio 29 Page 50
2 Whetstone Lane Tranmere
John Joliffe head 64 professor of music born Liverpool
Margaret France visitor 52 widow housekeeper born London
Ellen Joliffe niece 22 born Liverpool
John is still in Tranmere at a different address in 1881 but no Margaret with him.
On
www.cheshirebmd.org.uk there is the death of a Margaret France aged 63 recorded in 1872 in the sub district of Tranmere. I know the age is wrong but it's exactly 10 years out so maybe worth investigating. On
www.freebmd.org.uk there are 2 Margaret France deaths recorded in the Birkenhead district on consecutive numbers and both aged 53.
Have to stop as going out. Maybe find which cemetery would be used for Tranmere and see if she's there. Maybe Arrowe Park Birkenhead.

Have found the ship they travelled to US.It was Golconda which left Liverpool 23 Jan 1853 for New Orleans. Captain (not ships captain but captain of the group) was Jacob Gates.
Dates for Margaret France's (nee Jolliffe) death looks good .
Thanks again to all
