Hello

I am interested in locating a copy of a coroner's report regarding the death of my great grandfather who died in Liverpool of misadventure in May 1920. As I live in Australia, I am unable to access newspaper records in person.

Does anyone know if there is an online access available to research Liverpool newspapers from this year?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The "Old Newspapers" that we generally have access to via the Lancashire Library Card only go up to 1900.

Findmypast does have more recent availability, there is a link to a subscription offer of £1 for the first month here http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... 23&t=14075 hope it works for you outside England. If you use it, you will no doubt have to enter credit card details, so make sure you cancel before the end of the month so that it doesn't automatically renew.

Many thanks Mary. I have had a quick look after I subscribed (only paying £1 - thank you!) and could only see records for the Liverpool Mercury for the 1800s. I will keeping looking however in case I have missed something.

The full record no longer exists but there may be a mention or a summary in the local newspapers. You could contact the Liverpool Record Office and ask them about getting their research service to look it up:-

Hi, This is a long shot but you never know,have you looked at Trove, I know it is an Australian newspaper site but you would be surprized some of the things you turn up concerning things happening in England.

Hi. I used the Liverpool record office research service to look up a coroner's report and newspaper report. They took less than 1 day and were very helpful and the cost was not too much (£10 or 15 ). I would definitely use them again

Be careful some people have taken up this type of offer and later found they've automatically had their subscription renewed through a tick box that should have been unticked. I'm not on FMP myself others may have more advice on this issue.

As with Ancestry too, I always recommend checking before the end of the free time to make sure you have it cancelled.

I am going to contact the Liverpool Records Office as suggested and although I have found records on Trove for my Australian relatives, I hadn't thought to try for my Liverpool ancestors, so I will try that also.

There is a box you can untick in your account for Findmypast which asks to automatically renew a person's membership which I have done. I found out this clue when a monthly subscription I had automatically renewed for me without asking.
