Hi everyone.

Just going over some old notes and I have this cemetery reference for my grandmother who died in 1959: Anf 6/6/155

Two questions:
1) How did I ever find this?! I vaguely remember getting it from the library and always intended visiting the grave to see who else was buried there but I cannot remember what records I looked in to get it. I would like to find a similar reference for my grnadfather who died in 1931 so someone please point me in the right direction.
2) What do I do with this reference? I assume it refers to Anfield Cemetery but how do I find out where the plot is? Or is there another way of checking whether there are others in the grave?

I suspect you would have got it from the Burial Register at the Record Office. With that reference hopefully you should be able to cross reference it with the Grave Register to see who else is in the same plot.

These registers are on microfilm as the dates you are interested in are too recent to have transcriptions on any online sites.

Any chance you are able to get to the library on Tuesday afternoon when the Help Desk will be on and somebody will give you a hand ?

352 Cem 6/6/155 is the Order Book for the Roman Catholic Section (I think).

These are not on Microfilm you have to order from the Archives, how the Roman Catholic Burial Registers are Ref 353 CEM 6/3. You get a bit more information from the Burial idea. Time of burial, cost etc.

Thanks for your post but I was a bit surprised by it as my grandmother never seemed to have any Roman Catholic links. I'm sure she attended a Wesleyan chapel in the years before her death and I even think she may have been involved with the Orange Lodge in the early 1900s. She called her oldest son 'George Wise' and I think my father may have referred to the Marches. In fact, I was about to put on another post asking if there is any way I can follow-up her possible link with the Lodge when I picked up your entry!

I'm beginning to wonder if I misread the reference but how do I go about ordering the the Order Book, if indeed that is the one I am looking for?

Did you record a 3 digit number before the ANF entry? 283 perhaps.

If so then this may relate to the parish records of St. Simon and St. Jude, Anfield rather than Anfield Cemetery, which, as Katie kindly showed has 352 CEM in the reference.

Hi Steve.

No, I didn't take down another reference code but it was some 9 or 10 years ago when I made the original note so I guess I was unsure of the significance.
My grandmother lived in Frinstead Road, which was/is in the Norris Green area. Does that fit in with your parish record theory?
Also, does this get me any nearer finding the grave and who else, if anyone, was buried in it?

May not be related to St. Simon and St. Jude. This church, which stood on Anfield Road was CofE and whilst Norris Green is close to Anfield, Finstead Road is more towards the West Derby end of Norris Green (just off Muirhead Avenue) so it doesn't seem that they popped over the "border".

If it does relate to Anfield Cemetery, and was a non-Catholic/CofE burial then I think yor reference may be referring to section GEN6 which would make more sense in terms of your grandmothers apparent religious affiliation.

If you are fairly sure that the graves would be in Anfield anyway, my suggestion would be to email the Record Office and request the Grave Registers and Order Books for the dates in question to be ready for you on the day you want to visit.

Thanks everyone - I'll get ordering and see what I uncover. I haven't been over to Liverpool since all the facilities have been re-opened so I am looking forward to it and I have a few things to follow up - mostly hints from forum members!

I could be wrong on what section but that is definitely a Burial order book Reference. I'll check tomorrow, but Mary may get there before me.

Hi everyone.
I had a super day at the Central Library yesterday and followed-up several leads you folks have given me.

Turns out my grandmother was cremated at Anfield Cremotorium which I guess might explain the odd reference I had!

I had my granfather's date of death and turns out he was buried in West Derby cemetery. I know the 'mode of burial' was 'subsequent' so there were others already buried in the grave but I didn't have a chance to follow this up further. John Morris was buried 5th May 1931 so would I have to arrange in advance to see the order books or are they readily available on microfilm?

As always, thanks for all the help that the FHS provides for people like me - great to see it all in action yesterday. I didn't make myself known to anyone as everyone was so busy but I heard the name 'Mary' mentioned - was that you, Mary?!

Oh gosh Glen yes it probably was me, sorry we missed you, we hardly had time to take a breath during the afternoon, we had 28 visitors to our Help Desk and because of family commitments, holidays etc. there were only three of us manning it.

I'll be back and when I am I will recognise you and thank you personally for all you have helped me with and everything else you seem to do for the group.
