Mary Davies and Robert Davies, her father
Mary Davies and Robert Davies, her father
Hoping that some fresh eyes will help me with one of my families as I’ve been stuck on this lot for years!
My 2x great grandmother was Mary Davies, born in Liverpool. She married James Cassidy at St. Michael’s, Garston on 25th December 1869. Her father was named as Robert Davies, an engineer. Her abode was ‘Garston’ and she was aged 21.
I have her on the census after her marriage:
1871: (16 Eslington Street, Garston) Piece 3852, Folio 134, Page Number 42. (age 21)
1881: (2 in 4 Court, Hampton Street, Toxteth Park) Piece 3635, Folio 63, Page Number 3 (age 33)
1891: (8 House 20 Court Rathbone Street, Liverpool) Piece 2912, Folio 12, Page Number 19 (age 46)
She died in 1892 and was buried at Walton Park aged 45. Address was 20 House Rathbone Street.
I have tried for many years to find her on earlier censuses in order to find out about her parents. From the information I have, she may have been born some time between 1845 and 1850.
I have found a potential family on the 1851 Census but have been unable to find them on later censuses to confirm or deny:
1851: 6 Court Ashley Street (Piece 2187, Folio 298, Page Number 13)
Robert Davies 31 mar Porter Denbigh, Wales
Ann Davies 31 mar Denbigh, Wales
Mary Davies 4 daur Liverpool
Catharine Davies 7 months daur Liverpool
Can anyone find them on the 1861 Census or later?

Re: Mary Davies and Robert Davies, her father
Thanks Pegasus - looks like it says Denbighshire.
I don't think this will turn out to be my family, however, due to there being no Mary. I found them on the 1861 Census as well but she's not there.

Re: Mary Davies and Robert Davies, her father
Hi Karen
I noticed earlier a Robert Davies Engine fitter in Staffordshire in 1851, an Engine and Machinery Fitter, wife Ellen, but no daughter Mary
HO107; Piece: 2029; Folio: 599; Page: 26
Robert Davies 31, b Derbyshire
Ellen Davies 26 b Staffordshire
Nicholas David 4
Robert David 1
I just thought I'd have another look, in case Mary/May with grandparents somewhere and I notice someone has this family on Ancestry along with the Liverpool marriage for them.. I notice they have a whole load of children to Robert and Ellen as Davies, but some other children as Pritchard, William b 1848, MARYb c 1850, Jane 1855, Catherine 1863, Elizabeth 1865.
It's a bit confusing to me.. have a look see what you think

Re: Mary Davies and Robert Davies, her father
Thanks, Simone! That tree looks like the owner has just accepted any hints that have been suggested instead of checking them. They have Robert Davies on a couple of censuses after they have his death record!
My Mary is proving elusive!

Re: Mary Davies and Robert Davies, her father
Found Samuel Pollett, the witness, he married Sarah Pedley, they are on the census, but no further clues there apart from the fact that he was also an engineer on his marriage in dec 1841, although listed as labourer in 1841.
was hoping Robert may be living nearby

Re: Mary Davies and Robert Davies, her father
Thank you for looking! I think this will be another one of those families to, once again, put on the back burner!
Re: Mary Davies and Robert Davies, her father
Hi Karen
I came across and entry on the 1851 Wales which has Mary Davies age 6, daughter of Ellen Prichard, according to the transcription.... However on looking at the image it is a bit of a pickle
Ellen Prichard is 72, and young Mary appears to be the daughter of Gwen Davies. There is another Ellen Prichard age 28, married, no husband listed, but with her is Margaret Williams, and they are listed with another Margaret Davies and her son Hugh ( a Margaret Williams witnessed the marriage between Robert Davies and Ellen Pritchard)
HO107; Piece: 2516; Folio: 255; Page: 7 Llanbeblig, Caernarvon
May all be very coincidental, but could there have been some confusion on filling the form in? Maybe Ellen age 72 mother to Ellen age 28, and there has been a mistake in listing young Ellen as Prichard not Davies...
May be clutching at straws but then may be worth a look

just having a play but can't see anything relevant at all to Robert davies Engineer on the census etc or anything more definite on Robert and wife Ellen. There's a marriage at St Nicholas 8/12/ 1845
