Will post this on Facebook as well.
I cant pin point at which point on my Davies saga you lovely people discovered the connection to the Ushers and the Davies, but I thought you would like to hear that on the basis of those findings what I discovered this week............
First of all a connection with an Usher tree on Ancestry disputed the date of William Surtees Usher death (he who was married to Mary the sister of Norah Prendergast, hope youre all keeping up!! ) If he was correct (I knew he wasnt............you'd told me date and that he had been lost at sea ) it would make Mary a bigamist and she certainly was not!!
Anyway last week bored out of my skull with football I started searching around and found details of a grave that seemed to fit my Usher family. I tried to email the site to find out if it was the grave I was looking for, but couldnt get an up to date email address. So not willing to give up I emailed South Tyneside Council, Town Hall & Civic Offices and had a reply saying they would do their best to help.
First of all they sent me the details of the grave, the family was right Mother, Father, son and daughter...............but no William. I emailed back and said it clearly stated William was there. She said he could be.......if I was correct (I knew I was..........the experts had told me!!) then it could be just an inscription recording his death Great stuff..................but how to I get the photo of the grave. Email back ............she would email the chap involved, he apparently photographed all the graves and was in contact with the office, and get him to contact me.................AND HE DID THIS MORNING!!
The picture clearly records William Surtees Usher dying at sea onboard the SS Cayo Largo..................which I promptly googled and found this
http://www.plimsoll.org/resources/SCCLi ... /21060.asp
Verse and chapter on the wreck..............including his name on the list of fatality.
So now I will up date my tree .................and try and resist the urge to gloat !!
Once again many thanks, another branch blooming
