This is a soldier who was from Rainhill but died in the Northern Hosspital, Liverpool on 5 May 1918. It is possible that he should be commemorated by CWGC as a war victim.
Any suggestions as to where he might have been buried, please? I have checked online lists for Allerton and Toxteth Park cemeteries without success.

His last known address I can find was New Rd, Rainhill, Google maps shows St Helens cemetery 3.2 miles from that address. Could he be there if that is the nearest place of burial.

His wife if correct was a good age and her obit may give clues, if it can be found.

Birth matches the date on birth given on the death record.

The British Newspaper Archive site has a potential death notice for him from the Liverpool Echo on 7 May 1918.

If you search for "Thursday next" you can see the end of the notice which says the burial was at Anfield

section 6 is one of the areas around the chapel which is towards the right as you enter from Priory Road.

Graves without a headstone used to be marked by a brick sized block of sandstone with the number etched into it - which can be quite difficult to locate.

Great news. Many thanks for a fully cooperative search, to all involved! This could lead to a request for formal recognition of a war grave.

That would be great if it happened. I've been having a read of his army service records and it certainly seems that his service led to him being hospitalised and his subsequent death.

An update on this story:
I found a headstone, toppled but legible. Sadly the part with the name of George Danby had crumbled away, but the remainder showed enough detail to match the information put together by our helpful forum members. His widow was 105 when she died, nearly 62 years a widow.
The case will now be submitted to CWGC and when I have more news I will report back - this may take months.

I have just heard that the CWGC have accepted that this is a war grave and in view of the condition of the headstone, an official one will be commissioned.
