Hi I am wondering if it is possible to find out anymore information regarding this deposition or whether it would have been covered in a local newspaper? It reads as following.
Liverpool deposition. Information of Thomas Lewis copper smith re: prosecution of John Black, Joesph Cropper,Edward Barr, Humphrey Humphreys, John Davis and John Jones apprentices to John Sutherland copper smith and brass founder for assault. Apr 21 1818.
My Thomas Lewis was married to Hannah Handy. I have not been able to find any information out about the couple after this date. They had serveral children before this date and I'm pretty sure they had another child after 1818 but have not been able to prove it. Their children were still in Liverpool in the 1830's but I can not find a death of Hannah or Thomas.
They lived on Bath Street on most records if this helps?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. What's the source of the information about the deposition? There doesn't appear to be a mention in the local newspaper.

It came from searching on the National Archives site. It says QSP/2735/26

I have been unable to find any mention of this incident online in the Liverpool Mercury, although the Old Newspapers site is behaving a little badly today and so might not actually be throwing up the correct search results. Could I suggest that you might like to google Lancashire Library and join this, your membership gives you access through their site to both 19th and 18th Century newspapers. You would then be able to browse as well as do a data search.

We have tried to collate a list of cemeteries and the dates they opened, this can be found here http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =14&t=5739 I have checked entries in the Gibsons Epitaphs without success for Thomas and Handy but this may only means that there was no headstone for their graves.

Did you know that Civil Registration began only in 1837, so if you think they may have died before that date there obviously won't be an entry - you don't say where you have searched for a death?

My suggestion would be to check out the links on the Old Mersey Times site - link on the page I gave above for Cemeteries, Graves & MI's, I know there are a lot of pages but it is one of the best sites for checking early records. Best way is to open the page and do a Alt E - Find search of the page.

I have checked Gores Directory for 1827, Baines 1825, 1773, 1767 and 1766 without finding an entry for Thomas, however in Gores Directory of 1790 there is a possible entry for Thomas Lewis, iron founder, back of 14, Sir Thomas' buildings.

I'm sorry to have come up with so many negative results, but at least you can discount some things.

The National Archives isn't the easiest to navigate glad you found an entry. Is there not a facility to acquire more information of this deposition?
