INGRAM FAMILY

I am searching for the Ingram Family. Henry Ingram married Mary Torkinton in 1822 in a church in Walton. I have the Marriage certificate. There are no fathers names on it so i am stuck as to how to get further back. I have no idea where either of them were born. They do not appear on any census's but i think they stayed in Liverpool as 2 of their daughters got married in Liverpool. I have found the childrens births and deaths. They were catholic and Christened their children a few days after they were born all these are recorded. On most of the information recorded he appears as a Tailor i am bearing in mind it could be sailor. A daughter went to Australia. Then the granddaughter went over at 13 years of age, married and had 9 children. All this is recorded on various sites. They both sailed from Liverpool. Yet i can find no trace of Henry or Mary. There are quite a few deaths with these names after the birth of their children and before the 1841 census but as they don't give the age when they died i'm not sure what to do. The daughter who went to Australia her married name is Elizabeth Kehoe. The granddaughters name was Rumbold.

Details of the marriage
Name: Mary Torkinton
Gender: Female
Marriage Date: 28 Jan 1822
Marriage Place: Saint Peter Church Street, Liverpool,Lancashire,England
Spouse: Henry Ingram

Does the actual parish register entry give either residences, witnesses or occupations? As it was prior to Civil Registration which began in 1837, there won't be any father's names listed.

St. Peter's register gives addresses only as 'of this parish.' Witnesses look like Ricard (not Richard) Prescott & James Covell.

Hi Mary
Karen has answered the one about witnesses addresses etc. I have the parish register certificate and you also emailed me one. Thanks
Thanks to Karen.
Hi Education Officer
I have seen this and the age is about right i think, only i don't know if he was born in Ireland. I think it also says he's single, don't think he would of divorced as they were very good catholics.
Hi Bertieone
Yes that's a possible many people lied about there age so i'll keep that one in mind. The only other one i've found was born in London, and it is quite an unusual name I think.
Hi Tina
Yes that's the sister she's on the 1861 census living with her sister but she's down as Elizabeth Rehoe. Her age is 35 and her niece Jane Rumbold is 5 months old. Elizabeth is on Ancestry and she went to Australia about 1868 i do have the info somewhere but i have lots of paperwork and not sure all relevant.
Jane Rumbold went to Victoria Australia in 1874 on the ship Theopane. She married Ernst William Albert Wendt in 1889. She was 86 when she died and had 9 children. I have all the info on them. It says she was only 13 years old when she went. She is not at home on the 1871 census and she's only 10. I seem to be having more luck searching Australia.

Children
Margaret born 30/6/1826 baptised 2/7/1826.
Ann born 18/1/1831 baptised 23/1/1831.
Sarah Ann Ingram born 1/8/1832 baptised 5/8/1832.

I have another couple of possibles but i'm not sure.
Thanks for all your help everyone.

Hi Again
I have also found a Henry Ingram born 11th October 1779 and christened at St Nicholas Liverpool. Father Francis Esquire Ingram. I am intrigued by this one as one of my husbands relatives always used a non de plume of samesq and 3 numbers. Maybe no connection but i don't know.
Also Henry Ingram born 8th December 1793 and christened 27th January 1794. Father Thomas Ingram and mother Ann Webster.
The 1779 Henry may be too old but all I know is he was full age.
Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Lin, I've sent an error to Anc regarding Elizabeth's surname.
So she was a widow 35 yrs in the 1861 census yes?

The 1841 census does not give whether someone I unmarried, married, widowed etc

Maybe Mary had died by 1841.

If they were RC I would expect them to be in one of the RC church graveyards. When their children married do they say whether their father was deceased?

Hi Tina
Yes it is an error she should be Kehoe Not Rehoe.
Hi education officer
My husbands direct line is Margaret Ingram and she married a William Rumbold on the 13th June 1848 at St Nicholas Church Liverpool. John Kehoe is a witness on the certificate who married her sister Elizabeth. It states the fathers name and profession, it does not say deceased so i think this indicates he was alive in 1848.
Thanks again
Lin

I'm afraid not. If it had said deceased then it could be taken that it was so, but when it doesn't say it might just mean that the question wasn't asked.

I, too, have a Henry Ingram in my family. He married Sarah Roberts at St. Nicholas on 14th August 1815. They had at least three children: Joseph (b.1816), Mary (b.1821) and Charlotte (b.1822). Charlotte is 3x great grandmother.

I have been looking for a baptism for my Henry and wondered where you got the above information from. What church is this?

This record is on the familysearch site, the christening took place at St Nicholas.

Thanks, Mary. Just a note for the original poster that it is 'Ingham' and not 'Ingram.'

And to add to your note for her, that she should never accept a transcription, but should check the original to be sure.

The image for the 1794 baptism is available on Ancestry. It is for a Henry Ingham son of Thomas and his wife Ann maiden name Webster. Abode Vernon Street and Thomas is a tailor

The lan-opc site shows 6 baptisms for the couple's children.

I should of made it clear that i do not know if it is Ingram or Ingham as i have originals with both spellings. On Alice Mary Ann Rumbold birth certificate 1858 It does state clearly Ingham but when Elizabeth Ingram married John Kehoe in 1845 it definitely looks more like Ingram. I have been searching both as i do not know which is the right one. On family search most of them are listed as Ingram.
Thanks Hilary I will definitely look at that one not sure what lan-opc site means as i am new to this site i presume its Lancashire something i will have a look now and a google. Thanks again.

I am still struggling with this one. I can find no records on Ancestry or Find my Past of the birth of any of the children. On Family Search it records 3 children who all died. It states their name as Ingram but not sure if it is Ingram or Ingham. Ann Ingram born 1831 and died the same year. Sarah Ann Ingram born 1833 and died the same year. Mary Ingram born 1828 and died 1835 age 7. I know there were 2 other daughters Margaret Ingram born i think 1826 and Elizabeth Ingram full age in 1848 when she married. I have been on a site that listed there baptisms a few days after they were born but i cannot find it now. All of the ones on Family Search list the father as Henry and he is a Tailor and Mary is the mother. I want to send for their birth certificates to see if it will help but can't find anything. Also although Family Search lists there deaths not sure how to order Death Certificates from information on there.
Thanks
Lin
