Liverpool, where to search for further info?

Post by Frankly3D »

Baptised in 1897, Waterford City, Ireland.

But otherwise this is all I know of my grandfathers brother:
http://uboat.net/allies/merchants/crews ... 54928.html

I have no idea when he moved to Liverpool,
guessing 1915-25.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Were there any stories about the family coming to England together? do you know when your grandfather arrived and which censuses have you found them on?

If you think he may have still be in Ireland in 1911 both that and the 1901 census for Ireland are free to search http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

From the Masters and Mates certificates,

Date of Birth, 24 May, 1897, Waterford, Ireland.

If I'm understanding them correctly, in 1918, he gave his home address as, 134 Barrack St, Waterford, Ireland.

Hi,
Re:
Baptised in 1897, Waterford City, Ireland.
Do you have the actual baptism cert?

From Merchant Navy & Maritime Record collection:
DOMINIC VINCENT MURPHY
DoB: 21st May 1887
Birth Place: Waterford
Birth County: Waterford
Identity Certificate Number: 5466
Card Type: CR10; Series: BT350

Findmypast have an MN record card for this man complete with a photograph, I guess this is from about 1919. He states born in Waterford but his nationality as British and his father as British.

I believe he may have lied about his age when going for the Mate's cert and added 10 years. The record card says 1887. Jim on his way again!

Social comment!
In 1911 Dominick's widowed mother is looking after her sister and brother [the former described as "Idiot" and the other as "Deaf and dumb"] in addition to her own 8 children!

I appreciate the help you all have given me,
I would never have found the West Derby info. on my own.

All this has come from a photo, (the one on the U-Bioat site,)
came into my possession after my father died,
Captain Dominic Vincent murphy (Liverpool) in dads hand.
