Mary Power/Halpin (Garston, Liverpool)

Hi
Can anyone help me get past the brick wall I have hit on this branch of my family tree?
I am looking for information concerning my grandmother (Mary Power/Halpin) from my father’s side (Harold Joseph Halpin). The information I have gathered so far is that my grandmother was born around 1922, married to my grandfather (Harold D Halpin) 1939, had 5 sons and died in 1982. I remember my grandmother lived in Garston, Liverpool in the old terrace houses (now demolished) and she use to have an ornament of a swan above her front door.
Family members have not been able to come up with much information, there was a rumour that my grandmother was brought up by nuns, but that sure how true this rumour is.
Thanks for any help.

Hi Jasjon,
Do you have this marriage cert?
Marriages Mar 1939: Halpin, Harold D married Power, Mary - Liverpool N. - 8b - 478
Mary's age and father's name/occupation would help finding her ancestry. The names of the witnesses could be important too.
While this death year does not match your post, could this be Mary?
Death: MARY HALPIN
Year 1985; Sep Qtr; Month of Registration: 7
Year Of Birth: 1921
Birth Month: 4
Birth Day: 6
District: LIVERPOOL; Volume: 36; Page: 319

If you had the father's name from Mary's marriage cert you could ask the GRO to search for a matching birth one year either side of 1921. Also, you could search the Index for a marriage match with one of the above maiden names.

Given the family rumour about Mary being raised by nuns and the birth of a Mary Halpin, mother Halpin in 1922, perhaps her father was unknown? Just a thought.

Hi Barbara,
I think the Mary A Power born 1922 [nee Halpin] could be to this couple, the only such marriage between 1911 and 1922.....

And these are her siblings?

Re:

It is possible Mary went to a convent school with a strict 'discipline' and suffered a painful schooling as a result. That would have made a life-long impression on her.

Next step is to get the 1939 marriage certificate if you don't have it to see what is says about the father:-

Hi DS - senior moment, got my Powers and Halpins mixed up! I do agree that you found the most likely. Marriage certificate seems like the logical step.
