Kirkdale cemetery query

Hi all. I'm in Liverpool from Australia and I had plans of finding some ancestors in local cemeteries, one being Kirkdale. I admit I didn't do much research on the cemetery before I came over so I rocked up there last week and called the Liverpool council as the sign suggested. Apparently it will cost me 10 pound per search request (per person) and the request needs to be made in writing via post.

Surely, surely there is another way and the council are not the only holder of these records? I've looked over the forum and looked through the information and links for the cemetery and other local ones but I haven't come across anything with any info about alternative ways to search this particular cemetery.

I am here for another 3 weeks, and I'm not against wandering the cemetery section by section until I find names but if there is an easier way, an alternative location or way of accessing/getting records, I would love to know.

I only know for sure of three people buried there.

William Joseph LYONS
DOD: 17 Feb 1929
(his wife Henrietta Adelaide LYONS is likely there too DOD: 10 Feb 1972 - the family home was directly opposite the cemetery)

their son Thomas LYONS
DOD: 22 Feb 1985

and his wife Annie Thompson LYONS
DOD: 16 Apr 1996

Also looking for any other LYONS, YOUDS, STROH, RIGBY, CUTLER, FLYNN

Cheers,
Danny

If you come to the Liverpool Family History help desk on Tuesday 1.30pm-4pm 3rd Floor, Liverpool Central Library, William Brown Street. A volunteer will show you how to get the Grave and Section number. Also a plan of the section so it will make it a bit easier for you to locate where they are.

Thanks Katie. I'm in London next week and unsure about the Tuesday after. Is the information available at the Library every day with the benefit of the Tuesday being that the volunteer is there?

Yes, the information is there. You need to consult 352 CEM 8 and over by the Help point they have the plans for the Cemeteries which include section and plot numbers.

Hi welcome to the forum.

Best advice from Katie there, but you may also find this useful as it gives dates when some of the cemeteries opened. http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =14&t=5739

Thanks for the help guys. I went to the Library today and I found quite a few relatives who are buried at Kirkdale, and now know their locations for a visit over the weekend.

Unfortunately however, the 3 people I really want to find I couldn't find in Kirkdale or in any of the listings that the Library had to offer. After revisiting my notes from conversations in the past, I think Thomas and Annie LYONS are buried in a church not far from their Fourth Avenue, Fazakerley address (not far from Kirkdale Cemetery).

Can anyone suggest one as the ones I've come across online all state they have no cemetery.

You have the exact dates, did you check the newspapers for an obituary, it often mentions where the funeral is to be.

What religion are they? Ford or Yew Tree might be a good bet if RC.

The dates you are looking at seem to be very recent for a church grave unless there was a previous interment and the grave re-opened.

Hi Danny,
Unless you have evidence to the contrary it would be an idea to check for cremations. http://liverpool.gov.uk/births-marriage ... rematoria/
The staff are usually very helpful especially as you have the actual dates of death and, presumably, the home address of the deceased from the death cert.

Did you check West Derby Cemetery?
