Hi Barbara,
There was only one birth of an Ailsa Myerson in all regions, not just England and Wales, between 1920 and 1945 and that was to the marriage that Bert posted. So I would say it is safe to assume the father is Albert Myerson.

Hi Barbara,
If you're going to pursue Albert,

The marriage above is correct, it appears he married, Eva M Davidson, 1918.

Albert Meyerson, Eva M Davidson, 1918, West Derby 8b 441.
Eva died, 1919, West Derby 8b 1084.

Albert's mothers name was Franciska Fahlbusch, bn, Saxony, Germany.
Albert was registered,

Albert Fahlbusch, 1896, Liverpool, 8b 59.
and it appears his siblings were also registered Fahlbusch.

There's nothing in the German records on Anc for Franciska.

I'll leave it there, don't want to spoil your research.

Story from tree on Anc, will remove if not allowed.

Karl Fahlbusch - Charles Meyerson

Arthur Meyerson is my grandfather now deceased, francis (or the
spellings you have provided is my great grandmother who my mum
remembers clearly. the 1st went to london and then charles worked on
the liverpool docks as an interpreter as he spoke 7 languages. we
virtually know he was from a wealthy background as he knew all the
languages and was reputedly himself or his father a doctor in germany.
they changed their name to sound less german/jewish or both. charles
was interned on the isle of mann for ww1 and went back to germany
afterwards, leaving us here (his wife and children) he died alone in
germany as the red cross informed franzika of his death and she wore
black for the remainder of her life. all the other children you found
are correct there were 5, 2 born in london and 3 born in
merseyside/wirral.

he began as a porter until he could obtain work with his languages.
our family name is fahlbusch in germany before the 1891 census but i
cannot find any websites that i can read (i am trying to learn german)
to find out more. his wife and he were married in berlin?
they moved to london and then to cheshire which is now called
merseyside, the border/boundary of districts changes frequently i
refer it as merseyside as i was born in bromborough and it was
merseyside then. this is my family and we have contacted live
relative of the myerson side (not meyerson as they dropped the e for
some reason). we have a document saying our family name is fahlbusch,
as it is a certificate from the brit government probably a birth

Well done lads, that was a little out of the ordinary.

Perhaps worth checking the National Archives to see if there was a legal change of name Barbara?

Thanks to everyone - all this has confirmed what I thought.
Mary, you even answered my next question which was going to be how to check for a name change. A very intriguing family and one that I knew nothing about considering Ailsa was my aunt by marriage!
One more interesting fact is that Albert was blind. He is recorded as blind in the 1901 and in the next census is in an establishment for the blind. He is recorded as Meryerson.
Thanks again for the help.

It appears that the death of Franciska/Frances was registered twice,

Frances Fahlbusch
Frances Meyerson,

aged 93, Birkenhead, March Qtr 1957 10a 64.

Would this be because Meyerson was registered first and then realised it wasn't her official name?

Could it be in a similar manner to what we have come across for marriages in the past? When there are two names there are often two entries, one being for an "also known as", rather than two actual separate entries.

Bert... Do I recall a query from you about Mill Cottages in Bromborough or Eastham?

The Meyerson family are here in 1901... RG13 Piece: 3384 Folio: 55 Page: 31
Address: Mill Cottages, Bromborough, Cheshire

Ten years later and Franziska is now Ann...
Address: 3 Bedford Place, Birkenhead, Cheshire
MEYERSON, Charles Head 46 1865 Photographer - Germany, Resident
MEYERSON, Anne Wife [Md 24 yrs] 46 1865 - Germany, Resident
MEYERSON, Lillie Dtr 21 1890 Printers Feeder - London, Lambeth
MEYERSON, Arthur Son 18 1893 Boiler Maker's Riveter/Screwer - Liverpool.
MEYERSON, Ethel Dtr 13 1898 School - Bromborough, Ches
WHITE, Phillis G.dtr 5 1906 - Liverpool

In 1891... RG12 Piece: 78 Folio: 8 Page: 9
Address: 45 Great Smith Street, St Margaret And St John The Evangelist, Westminster, London
MEYERSON, Charles Head 26 1865 Hotel Porter - Germany
MEYERSON, Franzicka Wife 26 1865 - Germany
MEYERSON, Nellie Dtr 3 1888 - Lambeth, London
MEYERSON, Lilly Dtr 1 1890 - Westminster, London

There is no marriage in the GRO for Charles and 'Ann', although they may have married outside the UK. But her children were registered as Fahlbusch [nee Fahlbusch?], even the youngest...
FAHLBUSCH, Ethel Violet - Wirral - 1898; Mar qtr - Volume no: 8A; Page no: 450
It could be there wasn't a marriage for some reason, so when she died as Meyerson it was then discovered she was not Charles' legal wife after all and had to be also registered as Fahlbusch.

.

You recall correctly, DS,

It was Eastham Mill as a working mill and later the cottages, unrelated to the Myerson enquiry.

According to the person on Ancestry who is related to this family, Karl/Charles and Franceska were married in Germany. Her maiden name was Crist.
As you can see on the 1901 Albert is not with the family, he's in a blind institution in Liverpool.
Thanks for every bit of info - it makes life that bit easier!

I am a great grandson of Karl & Franceska Meyerson (Fahlbusch). My mum, Eileen Hogan, is the youngest daughter of Nellie Meyerson. Mum is 80 now, & I would love to find out more about this branch of the family.

Thanks, Mary. I am also looking for information on the family of my maternal grandfather, William Hogan, born 1895 in Liverpool, died Liverpool 1953. In 1901 census was living in South Manchester. 1911 census living at 7 Greenwood Terrace, Liverpool. Married Nellie White (nee Meyerson) in 1930.
William's siblings were; Catherine (b c. 1896), Thomas (Oct 1897), Martin (April 1899), Ellen (Jan 1901), Joseph (Jan 1906), & Michael (1908).
William's parents were, Michael Hogan, born Liverpool 1874, died Liverpool June 1926, & Mary Ellen Hogan (nee Smith) born Leigh Jan 1876.

Hi and welcome,
Do you have the certificate for the parents' marriage...
William's parents were, Michael Hogan, born Liverpool 1874, died Liverpool June 1926, & Mary Ellen Hogan (nee Smith) born Leigh Jan 1876.
which would give their fathers' names and occupations?
Going by their years married in 1911 I think this could their marriage.....
Jun qtr 1894: Hogan, Michael and Smith, Mary Ellen - Ashton 8d 735

The registration district of Ashton [Ashton under Lyne] would fit with the south Manchester location of the family in 1901.

Edit to add: Unless I am looking at the wrong family they are at 15 Garibaldi Terrace, Everton, in 1911, not 7 Greenwood Terrace. Perhaps a typo in your post?

Thanks dickiesam, & yes that's them. Greenwood Terrace was later.
I think the family were originally from Co. Tipperary, but I haven't been able to trace it that far back yet
