Can anyone help with my history? Curran, Robinson, Lundberg.

Hi, I am new to this forum.
I am trying to trace family in Liverpool.
My father, James Curran, lived in Liverpool from 1931 to 1948. Addresses I have include Rice Lane, Brisbane St & Carnarvon St.
He was an only son, but his mother was a Robinson and she had a few brothers & sisters.
Names related to her include Robinson (obviously!), Lundberg, possibly Shannon & Carley.
I have snippets of info from my father, and I have found the odd date of birth here & there. But I live in Dorset and realistically can't get to Liverpool to check things thoroughly. I know in the 1990's he went back to Liverpool and found 3 or 4 living cousins.....but addresses are lost except one.
Other snippets include that one of his relatives was landlord of The Shipperies Pub and was possibly a boxer in his younger days. I have lots of names & a few old photos but that is it!
Is there by anychance, anyone on here with relatives of the same surnames?
Any help is really appreciated.
Kind regards, Paul Curran.

Hi and welcome to the forum. You are obviously looking for cousins so to come forward you will also need to go backwards and work from facts anyway rather than half memories.
Birth of James E Curran Q1 1931 Robinson W.Derby 8b 901
Possible marriage is Q2 1930 W. Derby 8b 726 James Curran and Margaret Robinson
This took place at Kirkdale, St. Athanasius
The details from this marriage certificate is what you need so as to identify their ages and father's details which will help to identify her siblings.

Hi and welcome,
Echoing what Mary A says, you need to establish a confirmed baseline of facts rather than family memories. I suggest starting by purchasing your father's birth certificate online from the GRO, assuming you don't have it already.
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certi ... efault.asp
MaryA has already identified his probable birth for you with the necessary references..
Birth: James E Curran, March Qtr 1931 [nee Robinson] W.Derby 8b 901
His marriage cert will confirm his father's name and age as well as that of his wife. With that info there is a possibility of finding her family and descendents, as well as your father's forbears.

There's 2 marriages between 1900/1930, Toxteth Park with the Robinson / Lundberg combination,
Annie Cotterell Lundberg, Thomas Robinson, 8b 373. 1906
May Lundberg, Herbert Robinson, 8b 334, 1915.

I have quite a few details already, mostly down to my dads memory and looking at the few old photos he has to jog his memory. And yes it is cousins I am trying to trace.
James Curran (grandad) married Margaret Robinson on 19/4/1930, and my dad was born in 1931...(no brothers or sisters)
James had a sister called Charlotte (b. about 1895). She married a Richardson, possibly in Sep 1914.......all I know is that she lived in Liverpool for the rest of her life...whereabouts unknown, any children unknown.
Margaret Robinson (grandmum...her parents names James & Margaret) had brothers & sisters....list as follows......
Emma (married a Shannon & had possibly 3 kids, Lottie, Nellie & son)
William (married maggie & had daughter Eillen...married Frank Kennedy)
Robert (married Rachel)
Then my nan (Margaret). She died in 1956 and is buried in Liverpool (I have these details)..My grandad died in Dorset in 1964.
Edith (married John Parr about 1919, had 2 possibly 3 children (James, Esther & possible Edith). She remarried about 1927 to William Lundberg and had 5 more kids (Billy, Lily, Margaret, Annie, Edith........Annie married Ray Carley and was possibly landlords of Shipperies Pub, Edith married cook on Queen Mary)
Edward (married Nellie and had a daughter Grace)
This is all the info I have!!! So it is the Richardson, Robinson, Lundberg branches I am trying to trace. I have some guide dates of birth for a lot of the cousins.....but that is about as far as it goes.

Still all guesswork which doesn't get you anywhere. You are going to have to begin with the details from the marriage certificate to confirm both ages and father's names.

Hello Paul,
Unfortunately the 'details' you are relying on are, in the main, folk-memory. You do need to get documentary evidence as to who is who and when/where they were born etc. For instance, to verify this possible sighting in the 1901 census you need James Curran's marriage cert to establish his age and father's name/occupation.
1901: RG13 Piece: 3474 Folio: 15 Page: 21
Address: 23 Elias Street, Everton, Lancashire
CURRAN, John Head 30 bn 1871 Hair Dresser - Liverpool, Lancashire
CURRAN, Mary Wife 27 1874 - Liverpool, Lancashire
CURRAN, Charlotte Dtr 6 1895 - Liverpool, Lancashire
CURRAN, James Son 4 1897 - Liverpool, Lancashire
A possible marriage for Charlotte.... to be confirmed by the cert:
Charlotte Curran married William Richardson
Registration district: West Derby, Lancashire
Year of registration: 1914; Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 718
Possible Richardson nee Curran births...
Births Jun 1915: Richardson, Lilian [Curran] W.Derby 8b 809
Births Mar 1918: Richardson, Elsie [Curran] W.Derby 8b 592
Births Sep 1921: Richardson, William J [Curran] W.Derby 8b 827

If this is your Nan's death, she was born about 1893.
CURRAN, Margaret
Registration district: Liverpool North, Lancashire
Year of registration: 1956; Quarter of registration: Apr-May-Jun
Age at death: 63
Volume no: 10D; Page no: 266
Unfortunately there are 7 Margaret Robinsons in Liverpool in the 1901 Census and 6 in the 1910+1, born 1893 +/2 years. A good reason for needing her father's name/occupation from her marriage cert.

Cheers Bert, you are being really helpful. Also at the same address on 1911 census is another family called Newport and Charlotte Curran is stayaing with them as niece. I know that Charlotte never got on with her father. So Mary Ann Curran (her mother) passed away between 1901 - 1911 census. How the Coule & Newport names are related I don't know. Could be sisters of Mary Ann Byrne (Charlottes mum)

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has spent a bit of time on this for me. The info that has come back has been extremely helpful, especially on the grandads sisters branch.
Its the Robinson branch I am really struggling on.
Margaret Robinson ( my gran) parents were James (b. 1855 approx) and Margaret (b. 1858 approx) who married about 1879ish.
As far as I am aware, there are 6 children.
Emma (married a Shannon....possibly)
William (married Maggie)
Robert (b. 1888 approx married Rachel)
Margaret (my nan, I have all her details now...b.1893)
Edith (b.1896 approx married John Parr 1919 then remarried William Lundberg in 1927)
Edward (b.1898 approx married Nellie)
Again, thanks to anyone who has helped.
Paul Curran

The boxer I am looking for is Ray Carley. He married my Dads cousin Annie Lundberg and I believe they were the landlords of the Shipperies Pub, in the docks area.......but thank you for that bit of info. Everything helps.
