Newspapers at Liverpool Records Office

Hello
I travelled to Liverpool today to visit the Family History Records. I didn't make a lot of progress other than realising how ageing has made reading the microfiches so difficult!
One if the things I was looking for were details of two trials. There is a court record of a acquittal for assault on 5th Feb 1880 for a Mary Graley and a conviction for a Thomas GraIley on 13th October 1873 for fraud that I was hoping to find more details of to see if either of these relate to my GG grandparents.
I didn't find anything - Even though I looked at two of the Liverpool papers for the days following these dates?
Please could I ask:
Would these cases be likely to be covered in the local press?
If so, which paper would be best to look at?

Many thanks.

If there was anything it would be recorded in the Liverpool Mercury I expect. An easier method is to join the Lancashire Library which will give you access to old newspapers online.

Sorry I didn't find anything in a search, but if you get your card I'm sure you would find it useful for future searches.
