Hi George,
Can you please give us the details from the earliest census you have the family on, do you know where George and Mary Brown lived after their marriage and what date was their son John born and where?

I'm presuming the 1841 census in Melling is your family
George 25
Mary 30
Margaret 8
Peter 5
John 4
James 9 mths
Lancs opc is good for Melling and shoes Peter baptised in 1835 he then dies in 1842and in 1844 George and Mary have another son Peter. George is listed on the baptism so dies post that. In fact he's buried at Melling on 19 Dec 1844 aged 32 years which would give him a birth date of 1811/12.
There is no baptism in Melling so I looked around the area and found a possible baptism in Sefton for a George Highton born 27 Dec 1811 christened 26 Jan 1812 the son of John and Margaret of Aintree. I would investigate this George more fully.
George and Margaret's son john was born 22 April 1837 and christened 14 May 1837 at Melling. Father George bricklayer which ties in with his occupation on the 1841 which is also bricklayer.
You should be able to get a death certificate for George to confirm it's right.
George married by licence so that may give more info.
When I was looking at Melling on lancs opc I checked under Highton Huyton and other variations that came up.

Have you looked at the marriage licence?
The 1841 rounded ages down to the nearest 5 so George could have been born between 1811 and 1816.
I think the death age and the marriage licence will confirm your George is the son of John christened at Sefton with abode given as Aintree.
