Barnby Family

I am researching the Barnby family. I think on the 1911 census they were living at 31 Blackstone street, Liverpool:
1911 Census
Father: James William Barnby 48 - born Yorkshire licensed Victualler
Emma Elizabeth 47 born-Birkenhead
Louisa 21 Liverpool
James 18
Jane Annie 16
Maud Victoria (Known as Victoria Maud) 14
William 12
Lillian 10
Florence Evelyn 7
Thomas 4 (living in Roby with wife Paula) in 1938
Elsie 3
James William 10
I would really appreciate any help in identifying any members of the family and being able to contact them.
Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum.
We have tried to put together a few suggestions for tracing living people which you can find here

Hi,
Tracing living relatives is a 'long haul' task. As stated in the link MaryA provided you can follow some family members through their marriages and then through their childrens' marriages. Barnby is a bit easier than Smith, Jones and Murphy!
Since you already have a relatively recent location for the son Thomas Barnby and his wife I would have suggested it is his children you should look for first, but I haven't found any. However there is a death for a T Barnby, a merchant seaman in 1943.
Death: BARNBY, T
Date of death: March 1943
Ship's name: Abosso
Series:BT334 - Registers and Indexes of Births, Marriages and Deaths of Passengers and Seamen at Sea
Box:0101
This death is recorded on the CWGC site and sadly confirms it is the same man.
http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casua ... ,%20THOMAS
Name: Barnby, Thomas
Rank: Steward
Date of Death: 29/10/1942
Age: 36
Regiment/Service: Merchant Navy, M.V. Abosso (Liverpool)
Panel Reference: Panel 1.
Memorial: TOWER HILL MEMORIAL, London.
Additional Information:
Son of James William and Emma Elizabeth Barnby; husband of Paula Barnby, of Childwall, Liverpool.
His father had died in 1932...
BARNBY, James W
Registration district: West Derby
Year of registration: 1932; Jun qtr
Age at death: 70
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 651

Just a quick note Semah...
In your post you have included a James Barnby [18] as being in the census for the Barnby family at 31 Blackstone Street. That name follows that of Emma Elizabeth which follows that of Louisa. Both the previous names have been crossed out.
In total there are 3 names crossed out and their 'ages' have been erased. I believe these to be the names of the 3 children stated to have died.
Deaths Sep 1888: Barnby, Florence Reeves [0] Liverpool 8b 103
Deaths Mar 1892: Barnby, Emma Elizabeth [0] W. Derby 8b 515
Deaths Sep 1903: Barnby, James William [0] Liverpool 8b 15
James Barnby [18] is not recorded in the Household Census Form.
PM sent.

Bless our ancestors who misunderstood the instructions for the 1911 census and sometimes listed either deceased or not at home members of the family, great extra clues.

Hi Semah, not sure if you have this marriage from Ches BMD
St Paul's Tranmere Birkenhead
James W Barnby to Emma E Reeves
3rd qtr 1887
You can look in Genes ReUnited for the offspring of this couple.
It's not expensive to join if you find someone.
Interesting marriage in Lancs BMD 1914 Louisa Barnby to Alfred M Barnby.
1938 Directory has an Alfred Marmaduke Barnby mariner 19 Isobel Grove Old Swan.

You're welcome.
I'm wondering if Alfred M & Louisa were cousins?
His father John also a victualler was born in Lockington Yorks, living in Islington then the Seaforth Castle Hotel.
Added later: They were bros!! They are in Everton in 1881 John Thos & James W (their births rego'd in Beverley nearest to Lockington) parents James snr 48 & Elizabeth 46 both bn Yorks.
