Birth details

Post by serveta paul »

I have a birth in Toxteth of Muriel Brown 1918 Sep qtr 8b 320 ( Mother - also Brown )
This may well be my grandmother - Is there any way to check the actual date of birth without ordering a certificate ?

Thanks
Paul

Do you have her name and date of death? Depending on when it was sometimes the exact date of birth was provided for this registration.

Hi Mary,
I do know the date of birth of my grandmother already.
I was hoping that this was her birth and the only way to confirm that I know of would be to look at the date on this certificate.

Sorry for misleading.

Hi Paul,
You could try applying to the GRO for a birth cert and specify the actual date of birth you have. If the date turns out to be correct you will be charged for the cert. But, if the date can't be matched the GRO will refund the charge in full.

If you do apply don't enter the GRO references [Volume and Page], just the year. There will be a box on the next page allowing you to enter the precise date of birth.

Update on above - The cert arrived today and the birth date matches.
I can only assume this is my grandmother as the chances of someone else having the same name, area and DoB must be very slim.

Hi Paul,
Since the date of birth on that cert matches the date you already have, and I assume the mother's name is a match as well, so add all the other 'matches' and you can be as sure as you will ever be that this is your grandmother's cert.

IMO, a good result! :D

Good result Paul, sorry there was no other way, but hopefully your research will now be onwards and upwards.
