Bridget O'Brien/Clate
Bridget O'Brien/Clate
While looking up some family information , I found a receipt from 1907 its a burial plot in Ford Cemetery for a Bridget Clarte, buried on 3 May 1907, the burial plot was purchased by my grandmother Catherine O'Brien/Neuling, Bridget Murphy born in Ireland 1844 and died in Liverpool in 1907, I know Bridget married Daniel O'Brien born 1834 in Ireland and then they moved to Liverpool to raise their family, my grandmother Catherine was one of their children, she was born in Liverpool in 1867 and died in Liverpool 1945, she is also buried in Ford Cemetery with her husband Hermann Neuling.
the two questions I need help with is When Daniel O'Brien died and when Bridget married Mr. Clate. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Bridget O'Brien/Clate
We need to narrow down the time for searching, can you give the details of the censuses that you have Daniel, Bridget and family on so that we know when he is first missing and if you have any censuses with Bridget listed on and with what surname.
Do you have the death certificate for Bridget to confirm her surname was Clarte? and who registered the death?

The address of the marriage matches that of the burial.

Coincidence or perhaps Bridget gave wrong info for the 1881 census, and was a widow.

Re: Bridget O'Brien/Clate
All the information I posted I had wrote in a book for some chap called O'Brien from Australia who I assisted at the Liverpool Record Office, must be about 10 to 15 years ago. I got stuck on looking for her 3rd marriage as he said she was married to someone called Smith. So I was looking for a death of Bridget Smith. I should have the address somewhere for Mr. O'Brien. I'll see if I can dig it out.

Re: Bridget O'Brien/Clate
Hello,
I just wrote a long reply only to lose it, so I will try again, Katie I would be interested to find out about the O'Brien from Australia,
I reply to all the questions from every one --- first of all I want to thank every one of you in taking the time to reply,
All I know is When my grandmother Catherine O'Brien [ married Hermann Neuling in 1888 Liverpool] died in 1945 she left her house to her son and one of his daughters ended up with all the family papers, one piece of information was the receipt of the burial plot dated 1907 for a Bridget -- it looked like Clarte buried on 3rd Mary 1907 Ford Cematery, I also know she was from Waterford Ireland, in fact on the 1881 census it states her birth place as Passage East Ireland and I was told its a small fishing village by Waterford, I also know Bridget married Daniel O'Brien --- I thought they were married in Ireland ? I do know, but all their children were born in Liverpool, I got so confused when I was on Ancestry with all the Bridget Murphy's and Daniel O'Brien's born in Ireland and Liverpool that I got confused.
I do know Daniel O'Brien was alive on the 1871 Census --- it showed him with Bridget, his children, plus Bridget's mother Ellen Murphy living with them on that census they do not have a street address , but reading the 1881 census it stated Bridget O'Brien being the Head [ must be head of house hold] married and living at 243 Up Fredrick St and being the house keeper, along with her children plus some guests, then in 1907 she is buried at Ford cemetery 3rd May 1907 under a different name --- don't know if its Clark or Clarte -- I wish I had more information to give but if Bridget was still married to Daniel in 1881 and died in 1907 under a new name she must have married in between these dates, thanks again for all the help, Mavis

I would like to hear more about this Mr. O'Brien in Australia, back in [ around 1919] a Mr. O'Brien wrote a message about his nephew a Mr Hermann Neuling when he died, there, he was one of Catherines & Hermann Neulings sons who went to Australia married and had 2 children, at the time I was wondering if this O'Brien had a family relation to my grandmother, of cause this was almost 100 years ago so it could be someone was trying to trace the family tree back to Liverpool, very interesting.
I am finding it a little confusing about Bridget being married a few times, I will have to check out all the dats again, thanks again for the information.

Thank you for the information on Bridget and Daniel --- when you found this information did you also find a copy of the marriage? if so I would love to have a copy, I don't know where you find your information but you can come up with information in a day or so that I have spent months tracing, I have Ancestry Worldwide, in the USA, but trying to get any information out of Ireland and sometimes England is impossible, thanks again for all your help,

Thanks for the information I am able to put together my great grandmothers life now, I was surprised that she married so many times, but I imagine life back in Liverpool in the 1800 when your husband dies and you have a large family was hard,MaryA wrote:
