Hello
I am new to this forum and would appreciate any information or assistance that could be provided. I am researching my husband's family: Inwood. I have located a marriage certificate for John Inwood and Martha Cope in 1753, St Thomas Church. I believe that John was a shoemaker. I have also located baptismal info for son, Jethro, from 1756, St Nicholas Church, and John, in 1754, also at St Nicholas. I know that a John Inwood, father to Rev Jethro Inwood, lived in Liverpool in 1783 when Jethro was a student at Oxford, but I do not know for certain if these are the same John and Jethro Inwood.
But now I have hit that brick wall. I live in Toronto, Canada and am uncertain about resources in Liverpool to help move me along. In particular, I was wondering how to locate a will for John - if there was one of course.
Thank you.

Re: John Inwood
Hi and welcome to the forum.
Others may have some more suggestions but I thought I'd bring this thread to your attention as we have collated quite a lot of information about the availability of Wills.
http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... ilit=wills
This link is the one for Lancashire, unfortunately their doesn't appear to be any listings for Inwood, if he was a minister he may not have remained in Liverpool and so it may be that you should search other areas also.

For other areas the best search would be on the National Archives site http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.u ... ollections

Re: John Inwood
Do you have this on Jethro? From the Church of England Clergy database [CCED]:
BA at Oxford, Edmund Hall
Ordained deacon 1788
ordained priest 1790.
Licensed as curate at GLYMPTON, Oxfordshire, 1788; then at Deptford St Paul, diocese of Rochester, 1796.
Vicar at Horninghold, Leicestershire, 1813. Died there 4 Dec 1823.
ADDED
Jethro appears to have had sermons published and his name crops up on the Amazon website among others. He mus have had an interest in freemasonry, which may give you a direction for future enquiries, as I believe their records are well kept.

Re: John Inwood
Thank you for your responses.
I have a great deal of data for Jethro from his marriage in 1781 and onwards.
It is his early life e.g. schooling and his family e.g. parents and siblings, that I am missing.
Hence the desire for info on John, the father, and John, the presumed brother. I hoped to locate info, but I don't see anything in the Tax rolls.
I will try the Archives.

Re: John Inwood
To daggers;
Yes, thanks. That was a great resource. The book is still in print and as a result I now have a picture of Jethro. Lucky me.

Re: John Inwood
I would have expected him to show on the Oxford Alumni which is on Ancestry but he doesn't. However there are 2 earlier Inwoods James and William sons of William Inwood of Cobham Hall attending Oxford in the 1670s James at Edmund Hall and William at Christchurch. Both are stated to be listed bin Fosters Inns of Court registry so presumably became lawyers.
It may be that they haven't got the relevant volume of Alumni on Ancestry. I'll be in the record office later this week so will have a look for you.

Re: John Inwood
Hi Hilary,
I have the source for Jethro's posting:
Oxford University Alumni 1715-1886 Vol. II, Pg 729
This was the first clue that I had re his father's name and city.

Re: John Inwood
As Jethro dies in Leicestershire I woul contact Leicester Record Office and ask if they have a copy will for him.
http://www.leics.gov.uk/recordoffice
You have his burial date and place of death.
Apparently the village is now referred to as Horninghold.
You could also contact the present vicar and ask if they have any information on him and his family.

Re: John Inwood
As promised I looked Jethro up in the Oxford Alumni books at Lancashire Record Offcie and found
Inwood, Jethro son of John of Liverpool Lancashire gent
St Edmund Hall
Matric 5 June 1783 aged 25 years. BA 1787
Using those dates would give a birth date of 1757/8
Hope this helps
