I have a baptism that took place in St Silas, Toxteth and I'm trying to read the abode. Just a note that the 1881 census address doesn't help as they seem to have moved back to West Derby and living in Black Horse Lane.
and her parents marriage which took place at Emmanuel, Everton, can you figure out whether there were four witnesses or did the minister write the first two names and those on the right are their own attempts at signing? I can read Joseph Evans and Margaret Bassford Lunt, it's those to the right of them that I am having difficulty with, Joseph Mason ??? and Margaret ???
Thanks a lot.

How about 191 Park Road? St Silas was in High Park Street, and at a guess, 191 would be on the southern side of High Park summit.
Lynedoch Street brings back memories of an ancient banger I bought there and quite soon regretted - no MOT testing then! I think it was off Kensington.
The 'P' in Park Road and in Prescot Road on the certs both have a sort of tail making them resemble an 'R'.

Hi MaryA,
I can read Joseph Evans and Margaret Bassford Lunt, it's those to the right of them that I am having difficulty with, Joseph Mason ??? and Margaret ???
I think the Joseph is Joseph Mason Heaton. FamilySearch has a marriage for him to Agnes Pickin in 1876 at St Mary, Walton and he and Agnes are living in Kirkdale in the 1881 census.

Thanks Alison, that's more evidence than I had for my theory of Evison, which rang bells in my mind, but couldn't find the name in my tree so probably not.
I suppose these witnesses were just friends rather than relations. I appreciate your input.

I also think it's Joseph Mason Heaton.
Not sure about Margaret's surname though.
I've had a look on Ancestry and the last 2 letters look like "on" to me and possibly a "D" at the beginning which would give DON but that doesn't seem like a surname to me!

Well thanks for looking, at least we all seem to be of the consensus that there were four witnesses not just the signatures for the first two, although that doesn't seem usual I suppose there's nothing wrong with it.
