Would anyone know the whereabouts of St Swithins records? At present they end as follows -

Burials - 1855

Baptisms - 1877

Marriages - 1860

Where are the rest of the records?

Am I right in thinking that you have checked the Liverpool Record Office to get this information?

I think the dates in the post refer to what is on lancs-opc I would imagine the actual records are with Liverpool Record Office. I find finding church records on the record office's new catalogue very difficult. I wish they had a separate church section as the Lancashire Record Office does. I would contact the record office and ask them if they hold the records and the dates available.

I had tried a search of the Liverpool Record Office catalogue before I asked the question and also found it difficult, just try "Swithin" in the text and you get a list of items but no parish registers. Perhaps we should ask about this, maybe a few of us could email and ask how we find the entries?

Another look revealed this entry, and I think the reference refers to the Parish Registers so maybe it's what we are after.

Ref No 282 SWI
Title St. Swithin Roman Catholic Church, Gillmoss
Date 1757-2002

Pity it doesn't state what is included.

A telephone call to the Record Office confirms that they do indeed hold the Parish Registers for St Swithin, not all registers go up to 2002 which is very misleading in the catalogue but is confirmed by whatever the assistant was referring to also.

From what I gathered the marriage records go up to 2002 but the baptisms were somewhere in the 1990's. So I hope you will find what you need.

As I said above, a couple of comments sent through to the Record Office by others also might bring better results of an improved catalogue do you think?

Many thanks folks.
It is a few years since I visited LRO, but the records for St Swithin's terminated at the years stated, at the time of my visits. Since then, these records have been transcribed and published on a couple of web sites, and they all seem to terminate at the same years as mentioned. Guess I"ll have to make the effort and get down to the library.
Once again,thanks for your interest
