Hi
Can anybody confirm (or not as the case may be) that Rose Place, All Saints (1851 census) was in the area now known as Childwall?
And if anyone has a map of the area and could point me in the right direction to get a copy that would be very much appreciated.

Have checked the street indexes but can only see the Rose Place in Islington and St Martins.

Can you please give the full reference for the image you have found and we will try to help from there. The reference will begin HO107 Piece .... Folio ... Page ..

a more modern map only shows Rose Bank.

All Saints, Great Nelson Street is likely to be the church. The street was near the junction of Scotland Road and Cazneau Street, through to Great Homer Street.
Rose Place was slightly to the south The church opened in 1848, closed in 1937 and was demolished in the 1960s. Its registers are at the the Record Office, ref: 283 ALS, perhaps microfilmed.

ps There is no photo in David Lewis's 'Churches of Liverpool'.

If everybody is in agreement then this would definitely not be known as Childwall. Still could do with checking the census reference to make sure please.

There are two references to Rose Place in the 1851 census.
Rose Place, Everton, West Derby and Rose Place, Liverpool, Liverpool, Everton one being the parish of All Saints. The Liverpool one is in Sub District: 1 Toxteth Park, Ecclesiastical Parish of St Thomas.

Strangely enough because Barbara has requested a look up for All Saints, Childwall in another post just today, I was checking the Parish Registers online to see if Childwall was yet uploaded and very coincidentally the first "All Saints, Liverpool" I came across had the address Rose Place.

Hopefully this coincidence would confirm the location as being the correct one that you have given for the church Daggers.

Wow, this is my first query after joining the Society and I am overwhelmed by the number of replies. Thank you all very much.
Further to Mary's first reply, the Reference No. is HO 107/2176. There are two other numbers on the form - 26 (top centre) and 109 (top right). The Ecclesiastical District is All Saints.

Using the information Daggers provided I have located Rose Place on a 1908 map. It's quite a long street running from Scotland Road through to Fox Street. This fits with other census records I have showing the family moved around in this vicinity. The phrase All Saints threw me as an Internet search only brought up Childwall; you can tell I'm still a novice
