Sissons Elston

My great grandfather, George William ELSTON (b1871 Liverpool) was one of six children. Two of his siblings had the maiden name of their mother (Mary Anna SISSONS b1846 Middlesex)) included in their names. They were John Sissons ELSTON (b1876 Liverpool) and Ellen Sissons ELSTON (b1878 Liverpool). I believe Ellen did not marry but John was married to Florence Mary CORKHILL in June 1905. I would be grateful for any information on either to add to the tree.
Thank you.

Hi
Have you checked the 1911 census for them.
Freebmd is only showing one Elston birth with a mothers maiden name of Corkhill and that was 1917 in Edmonton which ties in with where they were living in 1911 - see reply below

If you use the instructions below - you will find John & Florence living in Middlesex
USING THE FREE 1911 INDEX TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT HOUSEHOLD
http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx
Once you find a possible match - make a note of the county and district in which the person was living
Return to the index and in PERSONAL DETAILS - just put the surname of the family - nothing else
In LOCATION - Select the county and below it - type in the district
In OTHER MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD - show the full name of the person you have found on the index
Click SEARCH
The 1911 census is strictly pay per view so you will have to buy credits to view the full entry - the above instructions will only help to possibly show others of the same surname in the same household

Hi
I found a marriage for Ellen Sissons Elston in 1920 - age 42 She married William James- 47 at St Margarets, Anfield. Neither previously married. On the record they both lived at rocky lane and both fathers -deceased. One witness was a Maud Elston.

Hi Carole
Thank you for all your messages. You have certainly given me plenty of info to check and link into my trees. Will post outcome.
I see that you are researching WRIGHT. I too am working on a branch of the WRIGHT family. Mine originate from Prescot and were involved in the watch making industry (weren't most people in Prescot in the 19th century?) Let me know if I can offer any info.
Thanks again

Hi Ipinder
Thank you for your message. You have opened up a new avenue as I never knew that Ellen married. What is even more interesting is the witness, Maud ELSTON. I have two Maud ELSTONs, one mother and one daughter, which are a direct link to me. Do you know who the other witness was? It might help me identify if it was the mother or the daughter.
Thank you so much.

The marriage is on Ancestry.
The second witness is a Percival Car?????? I can't read the rest of the name. She states her father Thomas is deceased.

Hi Leigh
My Wrights are all from the heart of Liverpool - Everton mainly. The men were all involved in the bricklaying trade so no connection I'm afraid

Hi MaryA
Thank you for posting the original wedding certificate. Yes, Percival who...
However from the signature of Maud ELSTON I now know it is my great grandmother and not my great great grandmother who was the witness. Another piece in the jigsaw!
Thank you

He could just have been a friend or even if they had taken Maud along with them and needed another witness, just somebody they brought in from the street. It would be interesting if you ever checked their address in the Electoral Registers you might find him as a neighbour nearby.

Hi
I wondered if the name was Curran.. and then found this on Lancs BMD
William Curran married Ellen Elston at Kirkdale St Mary in 1881. Maybe he is a son of theirs
haven't found them with a son Percival though

unless it is a middle name

could be another relative or could William Curran be his step dad?
may be a cousin somewhere along the line, perhaps Ellen is a sister or cousin going back along your Elston line
