Hi and welcome to the forum.

The first thing to do is to try to ascertain the date the marriage may have taken place.

Can we start with Mary's previous marriage to "Mr McDonough"? What date was this? Then when was she widowed? Do you have any children born to Denis and Mary together?

I found a possible marriage for Mary in 1858.

Perhaps this is the marriage you want? but it sounds as if there may be a bit of a mystery about either Mary's maiden name or perhaps her mother remarried?
St Anthony's 13th October, 1864
Denis Kirwan
Parents - Peter and Anne

Mary McDonough
Parents - Michael & Mary Doyle (the "Doyle" has been crossed through and the "Michael &" has been added afterwards)
Witnesses John Laccei and Mary Doyle

These are the details from the Parish Register. If you need more information, such as addresses and occupations, you would need to order the full certificate, which you can do online from www.gro.gov.uk using the following reference.

There is a Catholic marriage for Mary Lacey to Edward McDonough, 6 June 1858. Parents for Mary are Roger and Helena (Elenor ?). All in Latin, but Ancestry have transcribed them into English. Moya

OK. Ellen came to Australia on her own ca 187), age about 10-11, she lived with Jane Napthine, nee Lacey, who I believe was her aunt, a sister of Mary McDonough. After finishing her schooling she went into domestic service where she met her future husband, William Justin. They we dairy farmers in Terang, Victoria, Australia, both died on the same day within hours of each other, in 1937. This couple was my husbands ggrandparents, the farm is still in the family run by my BIL and his son.
Jane Napthine (nee Lacey) and her sister Ellen Agnes Glowery were born in Ireland, they both came to Australia, I believe, but cannot prove, YET, they were sisters of Mary McDonough & daus of Roger and Elenor Lacey originally from Ireland. There was a cousin Jane Finnan (nee Lacey) who lived in Liverpool, we have a photo of her taken during WW1 when John Lacey Justin of the Australian Armed Forces visited her, unfortunately he was KIA in Belgium.
I think my next move is to try and find the death in England of Elenor/Ellen Lacey, I think I have found her in the 1861 census @ 61 Raymond St. Liverpool.
Thanks for your interest, Gwen

Thanks Gwen for interesting info. Pleased to know Ellen had a long life, imagine a child of her
age travelling alone??
Anc.au have her down as McDonald on the marriage in 1881.
A tree in Anc.uk also lists her with the same surname. Possibly copied anc. info.
With regard to the sad death of John L in 1917, mother Ellen McDonald.
Ellen was buried on 1st Jan 1937 and William 23rd July 1937,Terang cem.
According to Anx.
Ellen Agnes Glowrey nee Lacey died aged 83yrs buried in Terang 1923.
She married James in 1875. aged 35??
Jane Lacey married Benjamin Napthie as spelt in 1862 Victoria.
They both very brave young woman to travel by ship all that way back then.
Probably in steerage.
Great family tree Gwen

Further to my post re the marriage of Edward McDonough and Mary Lacey, in the Liverpool Catholic marriages on Ancestry.com Although it was all in Latin and Ancestry had transcribed the names, it does say that the McDonough parents were from Hibernia (Ireland ?) I couldn't quite make out where the Lacey parents were from, the name starts with a W. I thought it was Walton, but as the name of the priest is also Walton, and that has been written quite legibly, the place name must be something else. Perhaps someone could also look this up, it might throw some light on Mary's ancestry. Moya

Hi Moya
Not much help from me, I can only make out Roger & Helena Lacey parents,
Helena McDonough, witnesses Elizabeth Whelan & Jacob McHugh.
The rest is gobbledygook...

I be tinkin that Roger & Helena Lacey are of [De] Wicklow? Lots of Lacy families in this neck of the woods. And definitely Hibernia is Ireland.
