Lunts in Liverpool

I have hit a roadblock, I have a William Lunt born Jan 15, 1859 Walton on the Hill. Marries Lucy Hannah Lyon, she appears to have died when their son Robert William Lunt (1889 -1966) was 2 in 1891, I then found reference to William having a wife Sarah J. ????, and having 3 more children, Thomas, Edward and Sarah. All of the children were born Walton on the Hill. What I am looking for is her maiden name and when they were married, I can not find any reference to them marrying, she was from London. Thomas was born in 1895 so the marriage had to have happened between 1891 and 1895. Robert William Lunt the son of the first marriage is my paternal Great grandfather, so if there is anyone out there with a similar background I would love to be in touch.

Sounds good to me Gray, seems to be one of those that the LDS site likes to confuse us with by not giving the church, however, the LancsBMD site shows it to be St Mary's, Walton, even then it's not certain which since there was a St Mary's not far from Everton Valley and also the main church at the flyover is also St Mary's.

Gary you are amazing, I have been searching for it for hours and couldn't come up with a darn thing. I had a cousin do the search initially and he only found the first marriage, it was when I realized that Lucy had died so young that I knew I was looking for another family.

Thank you so much. I wish all my searches were solved so easily. I have another roadblock on my mums side, but the family wasn't from Liverpool but a few miles north in Southport.

Hi Mary,

I am pretty sure this is the correct one, fingers crossed.

Not sure why they list some churches and not others?

I have read a lot of criticism of the 'new site' I LOVE IT' but do agree lots of stuff seems to have been lost; Plus the fact if you are new to FamilyHistory it not so easy to get around.

Our society covers all of the West Derby Hundred, which includes Southport. If you check our main page you will see a list of our Groups, and the meetings held, Southport's in Birkdale Library. This Group also hosts quite a number of help desks too.

To the education officer, yes that is Williams baptism, I had that, but thank you anyway.

The other problem I am having is finding any references to my granmothers mum as my grandmother was born out of wedlock. The family story goes as follows.

My grandmother was always known as Sylvia May Vickers, born June 15th 1908 to Emily Vickers born in 1885 to William Vickers and Alice VcIver. My grandmother was taken to the Ormskirk Workhouse as an infant and taken in by the McNaughtons (it is assumed Emily stayed with them when she was pregnant) They never adopted my grandmother and they must have given her the name Sylvia because my grandmother found out when she was in her 60's and applying for a passport that the name on her birth certificate was May Vickers and her birthdate was incorrect also, we have to assume the McNaughtons used the day she came to live with them as the date of birth. Emily had a son also out of wedlock 2 years before my grandmother, he was raised as her brother, a guess a big charade ensued where Emilys mother pretended to be pregnant and when Eric was born came home with the baby. The McNaughtons knew of this and had to tell my grandmother when she was 16, when she brought her new beau home to meet the family and he was her brother Eric. There is a family rumour as to who the father of both children was and that Emily worked in his home as a servant, they were and still are a prominent family in the Area. So my problem is with Emily, there is no sign of her after the birth of my grandmother, I can't find a reference to her living anywhere or remarrying.

Thank you again, and sorry for the confusion over the districts etc, I was born in Southport but have lived in Canada since I was 2.

I've looked at my Lunts, unfortunately I can't make a connection with yours, sorry.

Is Lambert an indication of a family name for you? Do they by any chance originate in Wexford?

Hi :D

Re your Emily, I see she was born in Birkdale.. the closest I can find on the '11 census is this lady, a servant at Seymour St Liverpool,

Emily Magda Vickers, age 24, born Birkdale...

sadly in 1921 she dies and is buried at Walton Cemetery
Emily Vickers, Buried 11 April 1921, age 35, abode 14 Seymour Street :(

maybe  :?:

For the benefit of anybody wishing to look into the Sylvia May Vickers query, please see this link to save any duplication of research.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.ph ... 757.0.html

And Denise perhaps you would advise us whether you have followed up on any suggestions that have been put forward and what the results have been.

I have looked into all of the responses I got with my inquiry on Rootschat and still at a stand still. I also found the Emily Magda Vickers servant, but we were always led to believe she was Emily Jane, but no one can come up with why we believed that. So I had saved the information but was hesitant about using it. I also found an Emily married to a John Taverner, but there was something in that search that had me believing it wasn't her. None of the responses on Roots chat dealt as much with Emily as with my grandmother and her information which I already had. Mary I hadn't seen the report on the death of Emily in 1921, which would make a lot of sense, my grandmother remembered a pretty lady visiting her every few months when she was young and bringing her presents, but the visits stopped when she was in her teens. I also mentioned the brother Eric and when they found out the relationship you would think he would have mentioned it to my grandmother, of course he might have but she never told any of her children. It feels like its coming together.

Sorry Mary forgot to answer your Lambert question, I was born a Lunt so yes I married the name and no relations of my husbands were from Enland, his Lambert connections are all from Canada as far back as we have managed to research. His mum on the other hand was born a Knight in London so we are looking into all of that too.

Strange that I also have both Lamberts and Lunts, however they are only connected by marriage, Lamberts from Wexford and Lunts from Liverpool.
